When I was in university, there was some kind of partnership, so I went for a consultation. They only took X-rays, made a dental model only for the upper teeth, and then told me the orthodontic plan, so I did not really trust it. They did not even make a model for the lower teeth and just said it could be done this way and that way...
On top of that, the system was that you paid the price in a lump sum at the beginning and there were almost no extra charges afterward, but it was a bit excessively cheap.
In the area where my family home is, when I went to a Seoul National University Dental Hospital doctor, they told me to get double-jaw surgery, and they gave up partway through orthodontic treatment and refunded my money.
But here they said very confidently that I did not need double-jaw surgery. They said they would try to avoid extracting teeth as much as possible, expand the palate, and do this and that.
I just started for the time being. At that point I was emotionally exhausted and did not have the energy to go to another dental clinic. I had one more consultation, but they were not very kind there ㅡㅡ
In the end, I went there for 3 years and finished reasonably well without spending much.
Of course, they had said they would try to avoid extractions as much as possible, but in the end they extracted 4 teeth. It was a bit absurd that when I went in that day, they suddenly said, “We’ll need to extract teeth today.”
After everything was done one way or another, I’m satisfied. But even after orthodontic treatment, the teeth kept trying to return to their original shape, so I had to wear retainers. I did not know that... It is not greatly uncomfortable, though. I had malocclusion, so my upper and lower teeth were misaligned left to right.
After extracting teeth and then closing the spaces again, it is not very noticeable now.
The doctor was someone who appears on TV often.
A major complaint was that there were always so many people whenever I went, so I always had to wait an extra 30 to 40 minutes past my appointment time ㅡㅡ
Also, because there were so many people each time I saw the director, he would glance over my teeth for about 10 seconds, say, “Okay, do it this way and that way~,” give instructions, and then the rest was handled by other dental hygienists? dentists? That was how it worked.
I was concerned about my protruding jaw, and after orthodontic treatment, that part improved a lot, so I’m satisfied.
I also remember being told that if the teeth are misaligned, you keep chewing in the wrong direction repeatedly, and over time you would end up having to go through the trouble of orthodontic treatment anyway.
