Everyone, I went around for nose surgery consultations, and one of the clinics somehow makes me suspect proxy surgery? Listen and tell me if it’s just me thinking that.
1. Doctor misread the CT My nose is deviated to the left, but only this clinic said it was deviated to the right. All the other clinics (more than 5) said my septum was too weak to use and that I should use costal cartilage, but only this doctor said that at this level, my septum was on the sturdy side.
2. Surgery time was too long For a primary surgery using autologous costal cartilage, it’s usually 2 hours at most, but only this clinic quoted 3.5-4 hours. All the other clinics said even if it’s long it would be two hours, and since the style I want isn’t a difficult surgery, one clinic even said it could be finished in an hour and a half, you know? But only here said it would take 4 hours.
3. Rapid growth of the clinic in a short period I had been to this clinic before in the past. But back then, it was half the size of the current clinic. How did the clinic get that big in such a short time..? I suddenly remembered someone in a community saying not to assume doctors make money only from surgery, and that proxy surgery or operating while teaching can also become ways to make money.
Honestly, if only one of 1, 2, or 3 applied, I would’ve just thought, oh, maybe that’s how it is, but since all three fit, my gut somehow says proxy surgery... It seriously felt off, so in the end I didn’t have surgery here.
You all should research well before getting surgery too. Fighting!
