9-Year LASEK Review

I got LASEK when I was 20, and now it’s been 9 years.

When I first had my cornea exam, they said my corneas were thicker than other people’s, enough that I could even have surgery twice, and they first recommended LASIK. But the day before surgery, I looked things up online and heard that LASEK was safer, so I urgently switched to LASEK.

When I switched to LASEK, they warned me that if someone with thick corneas gets LASEK, it can hurt much more during the recovery period, but I decided on LASEK and had the surgery. The surgery was at a factory-style clinic, so there wasn’t much to it. The only thing was that I kept moving my eyeballs and got scolded by the doctor?

The first day was okay, but when I woke up after sleeping, my eyes hurt like crazy. If I cried because it hurt, my eyes would swell and hurt again, so that vicious cycle repeated. For about 3 days, I only slept one or two hours at a time, kept waking up, and it repeated.

After that, it got a bit better, but in the end, my vision didn’t improve as much as I expected, and I also had side effects. My vision was about 0.8/0.8, and I developed floaters. Whenever I looked at bright things like the sky or a book, 6-7 things like little flies kept floating in front of my eyes, so my eyes kept chasing those foreign specks, I couldn’t focus properly, and I couldn’t concentrate on work.

After about 5 years like that, the floaters still remained, but they changed to only appearing once in a while, and my vision also went up to 1.0/1.0, so now I’m satisfied with LASEK. I don’t know why my vision improved or why the floater symptoms eased, but anyway, as time passed, it did get a little better.

If someone around me asks whether I can recommend LASEK? Then I think I would recommend it.
