<Front><Side><Side>First of all, I’m the type who doesn’t really have cheekbones and doesn’t have much of a square jaw either, but my chin was long and the chin tip was slightly curled forward like a bow-shaped chin, so I had surgery because I wanted to reduce that and have a softer impression!
When looking straight from the front, it wasn’t that I hated my chin that much, but I happened to get enough time to recover after surgery, and one thing led to another, so I ended up having surgery! I’m not someone who researched information for a long time or anything, and I decided on surgery a bit urgently. Also, since I’m from outside Seoul, I had just made a reservation right away at a big hospital in the area where I live, but since facial contouring is still a major surgery, I thought Seoul would be better, so I looked into hospitals in Seoul.
But I thought Seoul would be really expensive, so I figured I should ask about the cost before deciding. I sent KakaoTalk inquiries about the cost to about 3-4 places, and the prices were like, huh, surprisingly reasonable..? The difference was around 3 million won, so I immediately canceled my reservation at the local hospital.
I’m also kind of too lazy to look into things.. If it’s famous, there must be a reason.. Since they’re busy, they must do a lot of surgeries, so they must be good.. With that thought, I went up to Seoul planning to book the same day and even do the pre-op tests (blood tests, etc..) at the hospital whose name appeared a lot when I first searched. I had the consultation that day, booked right away, finished the tests, and came back down!
There was some time between booking and surgery, and while searching during that time, I found there were hospitals that were more famous or more varied than the one I booked..? But honestly, there seem to be about 7-8 hospitals that show up a lot here and in other communities, and I think places that famous would all be good. I feel like I would have been satisfied anywhere.!
My main priority was reducing the chin tip, and for the square jaw, just enough so it connects naturally with the reduced chin tip! Definitely naturally! That’s how I decided to have the surgery!
And then surgery day! My original plan was to take a bus up alone, have surgery, and take a train back the next day. I took the bus up, arrived around 12, checked the pre-op consent forms and so on, changed clothes, washed my face, gargled, took pre-op photos again, and finished the surgery!
Since I had anesthesia and surgery, I didn’t really have fear about the surgery itself. It was just, oh, it’s over.. But the bed in the hospital room was small, so my feet stuck out, and I originally can’t sleep with my neck elevated, but the bed was raised high and my neck hurt so much, so it was really annoying and awful. Sigh, even thinking about it now, it was the worst.. The bed was more uncomfortable than my operated chin, so I kept sitting up and lying down, just waiting for time to pass quickly. Even when my chin felt a little painful, wrapping it with an ice pack made it okay again. Then the nurse came in from time to time to check on me. I had a blood drain attached, but she said there was barely any blood coming out, so she pressed firmly on my face and squeezed the blood out. She said if the blood doesn’t come out, inflammation can occur or swelling can last longer. She said I’d probably swell a lot (yeah..ㅎ that was the beginning, I didn’t know I’d become Bbungbbungie..ㅎ) About 9 hours after surgery, they brought me a cup of water, so I drank it little by little (the more water you drink, the more you swell.!) Around maybe 2 a.m., something suddenly came up from inside and I retched and threw up all the water. The nurse came and said it seemed like my digestive organs(?) hadn’t fully recovered yet after general anesthesia. She gave me another cup of water and told me to drink it slowly, and after that I was fine! Anyway, at that point I was so drained and the spot was so uncomfortable that I eventually sent an SOS to my parents. My parents drove almost 7 hours round trip to pick me up, and on the way home the next day, I slept deeply without waking up even once!
From the next day, I could feel myself swelling more and more, and it felt like, wow, can a person really swell this much? But maybe because I was taking painkillers, it didn’t hurt. I ate porridge and I think I drank a lot of chocolate milk.
The hospital revisit one week later! Since I had dissolvable stitches, they didn’t remove stitches separately and just checked the surgery area. But until a week had passed, blood kept coming out inside my mouth. The doctor looked and said there was minor bleeding, and that it would be good to take antibiotics for one more week, so I got another week’s prescription, took a CT scan, and came back home. They also said I had minor bleeding and that I was more swollen than most people! And even until 2 weeks passed, the incision hole was still there and blood still kept coming out a bit! By 3 weeks, the hole seemed to have healed completely!
And now exactly one month has passed. First of all, I like the surgery result! Because my chin tip was a bow-shaped chin, I had it moved backward, but there are lots of reviews of advancement for a retruded chin and not many about moving it backward, you know? So I was worried, but I think I did well. During the pre-op consultation they said 3 mm reduction and 3 mm setback, and I still haven’t heard the final result while looking at the CT photos, but I guess it was roughly that much? I think doing it around 3 mm was fine!
For the photos, I deliberately wanted to make it clear, so I took the before and after photos with the default iPhone camera. The after came out a bit brighter, but there is absolutely no retouching to reduce the chin or anything! And I cropped them to similar sizes and combined the photos so they’re easy to compare!
From the front, the candy-like swelling? hasn’t gone down yet, so both sides of the chin still look a bit bulging, but it’s slowly going down. The lower chin swelling is severe, so I think it’ll get a little shorter vertically too! Honestly, because the swelling is still bad, I was only thinking, sigh.. when will the swelling go down? But when I took photos and compared them, the side view clearly showed the chin setback. Honestly, I was a bit surprised looking at the photos! I think my impression definitely changed to look a bit softer. It’s not too pointy or obvious, and I think it turned out natural, so I hope all the swelling goes down quickly! Since I’m the only one seeing my face, I’m curious whether it looks good to other people too!

+I got a review discount from the hospital, but I have to write reviews a total of 3 times at 1, 3, and 6 months, and it’s more annoying than I expected. Of course there is a cost benefit, but I have to write the review not here but on another app, and now that one month has passed and I’m writing the review, they even decide all the photos and do the mosaics differently themselves, and there are a lot of things that make me go huh. I don’t really recommend the review discount..
