I had double-jaw surgery and two types of facial contouring (square jaw and chin) at Y Oral Surgery on August 7 last year because facial asymmetry and a mandibular underbite (prognathism where the lower front teeth protrude in front of the upper teeth) were my complexes.
It has now been 11 months since the surgery.
Time really seems to fly after 10 months post-op! Since around 6 months to 1 year after surgery is the time when the pins should be removed, I thought it would be better to do it as soon as possible, so I had the pin removal this time! Thinking that I had to have surgery again made me very nervous, but I was told during the consultation that compared with double-jaw surgery, the operation time is shorter and it is manageable enough to be discharged alone on the same day, so I was able to have the surgery without worry! After the surgery, as expected, waking up from anesthesia was the hardest They told me not to fall asleep, so I endured it while taking deep breaths, but I think I dozed off here and there. After 2-3 hours post-op, the anesthesia wore off, and I was using my phone. I was able to be discharged at 4 o'clock, but when I looked at myself in the mirror, I could clearly see my face was very swollen, so I left wearing a mask and a hood! As with the main surgery, I think the swelling was really severe on days 3-4! The swelling discomfort made things a bit difficult, as expected, but compared with double-jaw surgery, I could open my mouth, so aside from irritating foods, I could eat simple soft foods like rice or bread. Since I could eat, I was able to move around more than before, and I think the swelling went down faster! A little over 2 weeks after surgery, it had gone down enough that I could go out without a mask! There is still some residual swelling, so I still look a bit plump when taking photos, but if I keep going with daily life, it will all be gone before I know it haha! Now that I've graduated from double-jaw surgery, I feel lighter at heart! For those worried because of pin removal surgery, compared with double-jaw surgery, it's nothing, so I hope you try getting it done.
