Maybe because of that, if I seemed clueless during consultations, there were places that recommended not only rhinoplasty but all sorts of other things, and instead of the nose design I wanted, they just said things like, "This is how we do it at our hospital~" so I think I got a lot of consultations while being swayed.
Honestly, when they said, "A straight-to-slightly-curved profile suits you best," if they explained why by describing my nose shape in a way I could understand, I would have nodded along, but there were many consultations that weren't like that.. Still, after going to many places, maybe it's true that effort doesn't betray you, because when I had a rhinoplasty consultation with Director GJH, I felt I received a consultation with content clearly different from the explanations I had heard so far.
At first I spoke vaguely, like I did at other hospitals, saying I wanted to raise my nasal bridge while making the nasal tip more defined, and I hoped my bulbous nose could be corrected too. (Because even if I say only that much, hospitals usually just say roughly, "Then do it this way.") But this director seemed to want to hear in more detail exactly what I wanted. If I wanted to raise the nasal tip, what kind of shape did I want it raised into? How much did I want the nasal bridge raised? I think he paid attention to every really small detail. This was the only place where I felt I was truly receiving a proper consultation, and it was the hospital that made me look forward for the first time to how my nose would change after rhinoplasty, so I ended up getting the surgery there. Honestly, there was a time when I debated between autologous costal cartilage and donated costal cartilage, and I really thought about it for a long time.. The director said it was best to have surgery with the material I wanted, and since the choice was entirely up to me, I kept thinking about it, then decided that rather than leaving another scar with autologous costal cartilage, I should use donated costal cartilage, so I did it with donated costal cartilage. So far, I have no regrets about the material choice.
It's now been a little over a month since my rhinoplasty, and in the beginning, when I still had the splint on, the stuffiness was so hard that I wondered why I had even done my nose.. lol At that time I couldn't even check my nose shape, so I think it felt even more that way. When I removed the splint and saw my nose shape for the first time, I felt like it came out exactly as I had discussed with the director during consultation. Of course it was still swollen, but when I look at my pre-surgery photos, my nose had been really blunt and flat, so the feeling was clearly different lol I think the slim and defined feeling came out well.
Honestly, because I went around to many consultations, not just this place, I think I could feel how helpful an honest consultation without overselling is for someone like me who doesn't know much about rhinoplasty. On top of that, if my aesthetic sense and the director's aesthetic sense match well, I really think there won't be regrets.. I'm only one month in now lol so there's still a long way to go before the minor swelling settles, but when everyone goes for consultations, I hope you seriously think about whether you're being swayed by the director's opinion instead of your own.. and I hope you find a hospital that honestly tells you about how your nose can change.
