Double-Jaw Surgery Reviews

It’s Tough, but Even If I Had to Do It Again, I’d Still Get Double-Jaw Surgery

Before before before / after after after I’ve had severe facial asymmetry since I was young, so I kept thinking I should get double-jaw surgery, and this time I ended up getting double-jaw surgery and 3 types of facial contouring (cheekbones, square jaw, chin) at Y Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery! I watched a lot of Y Oral’s YouTube videos and reviews on another community, and all the before-and-after photos in the reviews were dramatic but still natural, as if they were their original faces. So I went in for a consultation once, and I liked the director’s experience, there was no worry about ghost surgery because it’s a one-director clinic, and the operating room CCTV is disclosed, which made it feel trustworthy. After the consultation, I decided right away to have surgery here!

My goal was to have surgery during summer break, so I had presurgical orthodontic treatment for about 4 months starting in March! Since the dental clinic is attached, it was convenient because I could just do the orthodontics at Y Oral too haha

<Before Surgery> I drank coffee without thinking until the night before surgery, so I kept urinating at dawn... After surgery, it’s hard to even drink water, but of all things I drank coffee and drained all the water out of my body

<Day of Surgery> On the day of surgery, I went to the hospital, unpacked my things, changed into hospital clothes, gargled... I was lying on the operating room bed and inhaling something, then fell asleep without realizing it, so I don’t remember anything Then I woke up and the surgery was over. I was disoriented and so sleepy, but they said I wasn’t allowed to sleep.. I think I endured it because the manager kept staying with me and waking me up

After I woke up a bit, I just sat there for a long time. The nurses gave me medication and things, so it didn’t hurt, but I had absolutely no energy to look at my phone, so I just sat there blankly. Eventually my tailbone started hurting, but the cushion at the hospital worked really well. In the middle of it, the director came and told me the surgery went well, so I felt reassured! haha The day of surgery passed as I endured how hard it was...

<Post-op Day 2> I barely slept.. I think I kept sleeping and waking up in 10-minute intervals at night. In the morning, they removed the nasal tube and the blood drain connected to my mouth, so it felt a little better. I also got a swelling laser treatment! They removed the urinary catheter too, but until they took it out, I didn’t even know a urinary catheter was connected.. haha From that day, they told me to walk around the hospital a bit to reduce swelling, so I did walk very slightly, but I still had no energy that day and mostly just sat there. I tried hard to drink water and New Care, but swallowing was difficult. My throat hurt so much But I think the more you swallow, the more your throat gets better. I think it’s good to drink diligently! That evening, I also received discharge instructions and a prescription!

<Discharge Day> That day too, I slept and woke up in 10-minute intervals, then in the morning my mom came, I packed my things, got swelling laser treatment, changed clothes, and was discharged! I live outside Seoul, so I rode in a car down to my home, and being in the car the whole time was definitely hard..

<Day 4> Sleep was like waking up once every hour? I slept better than expected! But I was extremely swollen My eyes were so swollen that even if I opened them wide, I couldn’t see ahead, my nose was completely blocked, and I could barely breathe only through my throat. This was the hardest day They say the more flesh you have, the more you swell.. I should have dieted.. Still, when I did cold compresses on my jaw and put a cold wet towel on my face, the heat in my face went down a bit and it became bearable!! Drinking water was hard, but because I kept drinking it, my throat got more comfortable too

<Day 5> From this point, my nose started opening up a bit and the swelling slowly started going down!! I diligently drank New Care, fruit juice, pumpkin juice, and water! I got porridge from Bonjuk blended as finely as possible and ate it through a sauce bottle haha I think I got noticeably better from this point

<Day 6> The swelling went down a lot, so I became a different person lol Before this, I was so swollen I couldn’t close my mouth, so I kept drooling and got saliva rash on my chin, but from this day, my mouth closed and I stopped drooling! From this point, I also didn’t wake up much at night and slept well haha

<Day 8> The long-awaited first outpatient visit..! I got swelling laser treatment, had the inside of my mouth disinfected, heard that I could brush my teeth, then came home and brushed with a baby toothbrush!! Until then, I had only been gargling, so because of my own bad breath.. lol I would wake up while sleeping, get irritated, then go back to sleep, but after brushing my teeth, it felt refreshing and I could finally live haha

<Days 9-13> Because I diligently did warm compresses, I could feel the swelling going down more and more each day!! Until then, when I stood up, I got dizzy and my vision went dark so I couldn’t really go for walks, but even just doing warm compresses diligently made the swelling drain quickly Every day I only ate New Care and porridge blended as much as possible, but from this point I soaked castella or roll cake in milk and ate it, ate yogurt, ate ice cream, and ate porridge without blending it, leaving some rice grains intact! I can’t really eat salty foods because I’m worried I might swell, but eating like this gave me some energy and made it much more bearable haha From day 9, I sleep completely deeply through the night without waking up!!

<Day 14> I went to my second outpatient visit, got swelling laser treatment, and had the stitches inside my mouth removed! They told me at this time that a lot of the swelling had gone down, so I felt proud haha I was really tense because people say removing intraoral stitches feels like the pain of tearing raw flesh, but it wasn’t as painful as I expected. It just stung a little and that was it. Now I have to practice opening my mouth and do mouth stretches while saying ah-eh-ee-oh-oo, but even when I open my mouth, one finger doesn’t fit well, so it feels overwhelming Until the stitches were removed, I couldn’t eat spicy or greasy foods, but that day, right after getting the stitches out, I ate hangover soup. It was so delicious...

If you just endure the first week after surgery, I think there’s almost no discomfort after that. As the days go by, I hear people say my face has become tiny, and I live with a mirror next to me every day to check the swelling going down haha Before, even though COVID had ended long ago, because of my complex, I wore a mask every day and had a hard time making eye contact, but I really think I did the right thing by getting surgery It was a bit hard, but even if I went back, I think I’d get the surgery again

Thank you to the hospital that performed the surgery beautifully! And to everyone who read this long post
