When I first thought about plastic surgery, I looked up so many reviews too, and they were really helpful. So I’m also trying to leave a review to give back as much as I received. There didn’t seem to be many reviews about donated dermis (MegaDerm), so I’ll try to write as much detail as possible. I’m male. (I thought stating my sex would make it more detailed.)
1. Why donated dermis? - First of all, the idea of using silicone scared me too much. People say the chance of inflammation is high, and even if it’s fine right now, it seemed like eventually, after 10 or 20 years, inflammation or some side effect would definitely happen at least once. I absolutely did not want revision surgery.
2. Surgical process? - Nasal bridge MegaDerm 5 mm, columella reinforcement, nasal tip ear cartilage, nasal tip tying? I think I had about that much done. I did not add any surgical process that changes my original body (except the nasal bridge). For example, things like osteotomy (breaking the bone to change the shape..?) or alar reduction.
3. Absorption of donated dermis (MegaDerm)? - This is probably what you’re most curious about. Hmm... it probably varies case by case, but for me it seems to absorb a lot. Basically, 5 mm was inserted and overcorrected, but looking at it now... I only think that I’m glad I overcorrected. It gradually goes down. Since it goes down together with the swelling, in the beginning it feels like it is shrinking even faster. Around the 1-month mark, it was at the level where I thought I could go out if I wore a mask, and from the 3-month mark it becomes rea~lly natural. Now I just hope it stops going down. I wrote my previous post around 3 months ago, and if you look at that, you’ll know how much I worried because my nose was too high. But I whined to the doctor for no reason, and later I felt sorry about it to that extent. * I haven’t measured my current nasal bridge, but I think around 3 mm may remain. Ah, and my biggest concern was that the nasal starting point felt too high, so although the nasal bridge would get lower, I worried a lot that if the nasal starting point stayed as it was, it would look too strange. But as the nasal bridge got lower, the nasal starting point also came down haha;;
4. I heard donated dermis becomes uneven? - This is also a bit ambiguous. From what I felt, it seems more accurate to say your original nose shape shows a little. What I mean is, if you originally had a slight hump or a part that protruded, that shape feels like it shows a little. It’s not severe. I think women may care a lot about this point.. Personally, I can only think that an overly straight nose looks operated on to anyone. I think the unique curves of a natural nose or a slight hump not only add naturalness but can also become your own individuality.
5. Inflammation..? - I’m not sure about this either. It does seem like sebum builds up a lot around the nose, but that might just be because I’m scared and can’t touch my nose, so I can’t wash the nasal skin well... For now, it must definitely be safer than silicone..!
6. Overall review - I’m very satisfied. Except for my nose, I was good-looking, so I think now it turned out really natural and good. But for about a month after surgery, it was really hard, thinking, “Is this right.. Do I have to live like this forever?” For people who just had surgery or who are about to have it, I think time is the answer. I heard I could have revision surgery within 2 weeks and really wanted to do revision surgery, but looking back, it was all foolish. Everyone, hang in there, and try to endure just one more month.
I left everything I thought people might be curious about regarding donated dermis surgery. Ah, and this is my personal opinion, but everyone, please don’t get alar reduction unless you really need to.. Most of the time, it’s a problem that will naturally be solved by raising the nasal tip, but after getting alar reduction, the nasal tip really becomes like a 1 1 electrical outlet;; It really looks very obviously operated on. The best thing about the donated dermis + nasal tip I had done is that it looks rea~~~~lly natural.
