I had two types of facial contouring and rhinoplasty on May 9. For my nose, I had the nasal bridge, osteotomy, and bulbous nose correction.
Up until days 3-4, I tasted hell.. The jaw and cheekbone pain was okay. (Personally, I recommend not doing square jaw surgery and rhinoplasty together.. It’s not that the pain is severe, but it’s just so distressing.)
Right after surgery, you stay hospitalized for one day. On the first day, the throat pain from general anesthesia was quite bad for me. Bloody phlegm kept getting stuck in my throat, and it felt like there was a foreign object right in the middle of my throat, which was bothersome and painful..
On top of that, since I had rhinoplasty together, they blocked my nose completely with cotton, so breathing was really hard and distressing..
Because I couldn’t breathe through my nose, I had to breathe only through my mouth, so my mouth dried out quickly, and they wouldn’t let me drink water.. It was so distressing that I started crying lol;;
The nasal cotton was so stuffy that I called the nurse and begged to know if they could remove it. They said that if they removed it, the inside of my nose would swell up completely because of bleeding, they would have to cut the swollen mucous membrane, and they would have to put cotton in again anyway, so it would be even more distressing. Still, I just wanted to survive right then, so I begged them to remove it, and in the end they did.. (I didn’t know then that it would be even more hellish. There is a reason the hospital tells you to endure it no matter how stuffy it is.)
After removing the nasal cotton, I thought I would be able to breathe smoothly, but absolutely not. The inside of my nose and the mucous membrane were already very swollen, and it was full of blood inside. So breathing through my nose was impossible.
In the end, I writhed in pain until the next morning at 10, when the director saw me and said I was the first person in their recent surgeries to remove nasal cotton since 14 years ago;; How does everyone endure it?
Anyway, when they slightly cut the very swollen mucous membrane (it stung a lot), I felt blood flowing out of my nose.. They stopped the bleeding again, disinfected it, and blocked it again with cotton, and it was so painful, distressing, and hard that I cried again.. Then after I got all my medication, my friends came by car to pick me up, and I went home.
After going home, I endured one more day, had the cotton removed normally, and as time passed, the splint was also removed, so breathing is much more comfortable now. My nose is still firm. Still, once the swelling around my nose went down a bit, my friends were surprised. They said it turned out pretty and natural, so I feel good.
My jaw had almost no pain, but from day 6 it started hurting a lot. My entire lower jaw, especially the middle jaw and chin tip area, is throbbing a lot, maybe because of the stitches, and the tooth tightness and numbness are significant. Is it normally this painful? I’m curious whether other people were like this too..
My cheekbones don’t particularly hurt anywhere. I don’t think I bruised much either.
For meals, until day 5 I only ate thin rice gruel and porridge, but I really couldn’t stand it, so on day 6 I cooked one Chapagetti, chopped it up completely small, and made it like porridge to eat. (It tasted like heaven.)
Until day 6, there was no bleeding from my mouth, but suddenly bleeding occurred. Even when I kept rinsing my mouth, blood came out. It kept stopping and starting, stopping and starting, so the next day, when I visited the hospital to remove the stitches from my nose, ears, and sideburns, I told them, and they said there was no problem, the stitches were also fine, and it was blood that had pooled inside the stitch wound(?) coming out. Even now, only a small amount of blood comes out briefly from time to time.
That day, the nurse who was helping with my treatment told me to lie down on the treatment table when she called my name, so I lay down. Then she glanced back at the chart and seemed surprised, and called my name once more, “Mr./Ms. OOO?!” So I was startled, thinking something was wrong, and said, “Yes?!” She said she had treated me on the first day, but my swelling had gone down so much in one week that she thought I was a different patient. This hospital is famous and has many patients, but she remembered me, so I guess the nasal cotton incident left a big impressionㅠlol
Anyway, the uncomfortable things so far are that I can’t open my mouth well (gradually getting better), and the pain in my jaw and teeth. Looking at other reviews, they say the pain disappears around days 10-12, so I’m going to wait too.
I have another visit next Monday, so I’ll have to see how things are then.
