-Reason for choosing Ever since I was young, I had always lived thinking that I wanted cheekbone reduction. I looked around here and there and went to consultations at several places, but there wasn’t anywhere I particularly liked, and after seeing an acquaintance who had surgery at a factory-style plastic surgery clinic, I made up my mind that even if it was expensive, I had to do it at a famous place specializing in facial contouring, so I went for a consultation at Samsao.
-Areas treated and reason I was concerned about my cheekbones and square jaw, so I consulted about both areas, but I was too worried about postoperative skin sagging, so in the end I decided to do only the cheekbones. The consultation manager was like that too, but the director also answered all of my many questions without seeming annoyed, and it was the only place where I liked both the surgical experience and the postoperative care, so I immediately paid a deposit and left. At first I planned to do both areas, and about a week before surgery I urgently changed it to cheekbones only, but thanks to the manager who responded kindly, I think I was able to get on the operating table with peace of mind.
-Changes after surgery, reactions around me After surgery, even on the day of surgery, I was so surprised that my cheekbones looked noticeably reduced. Because my cheekbones were on the larger side, they said that even with cheekbones only, my whole face would look smaller, so I had expectations, and now that a little over a month has passed, I really agree with that. People around me say things like, rather than thinking I had cheekbone reduction surgery, “It looks like you lost a lot of weight,” or “Your face looks smaller,” and so on. I’m very satisfied because I’m hearing things I had never heard once in my life.
-Current satisfaction It has been over a month, but I was worried because it still seems like there is some swelling left, but after hearing that residual swelling originally lasts a bit longer, I’m waiting with a calmer mind. Honestly, even if there is residual swelling now, I think it has gone in far more than I imagined.... My sensation has also come back quite a bit, and once I got past the mouthwash-only period and became able to brush my teeth with a children’s toothbrush, all the uncomfortable parts disappeared too.
-Daily life recovery process, etc. Still, there is some sensation that has not returned yet, even if only slightly, so I asked about it, and they said this would also gradually come back. I tested whether sensation was returning day by day, and I could really see it slowly improving, so I felt relieved.
To talk about the process of swelling and pain improving:
Day 1 On the first day, when I was recovering in the recovery room after surgery, honestly, I regretted it a lot. I wondered what kind of glory I was trying to achieve by doing such a painful surgery. That’s how much coldness and pain around the cheekbones and inside the mouth I had, but whenever that happened, the nurse cared for me in real time, and before I went home, the director also came and reassured me a lot, so I was able to be discharged the same day relatively quickly.
Day 2~1 week On the second and third days, I just slept when I was sleepy, and outside of that, because I wanted to reduce the swelling quickly, I think I went out for walks constantly. Honestly, I went for a walk even on the day of surgery, but because of the bandage it drew attention, so I think I started going out for walks a lot from the second day. Compared with staying home too much, walking definitely seemed to make it go down faster, and above all, by around day 5, I think the pain had gone down enough that I could eat porridge. It was scary that blood kept coming out when I woke up, but during the call the director gave me in the middle, I asked about various things, and after feeling a bit reassured, I think I just focused on recovery. At the one-week mark, I went out to work.
1 week~1 month Honestly, from one week to one month it felt similar, but the bleeding almost disappeared, it wasn’t uncomfortable when sleeping, and I think the major swelling had completely disappeared after one week. Until the stitches inside my mouth were removed, there was a somewhat uncomfortable feeling, but as soon as the stitches inside my mouth were removed, that went away too, so I think I ate ramen right away that day..
1 month~now It’s becoming 1 month and 2 weeks since surgery, and now I can chew a little bit (though I shouldn’t overdo it), and only residual swelling remains. Honestly, I’ve also forgotten how much pain there was.. but seeing as I never had an “ah, this hurts so much” feeling after week 2, I think from week 3 it became livable.
After reducing the cheekbones that I thought were a lifelong complex, I feel quite relieved, and also think it was something that required so much courage that I could never do it again, but if I were in a situation where I had no choice but to have surgery again, my satisfaction is high enough that I would do it again.
Seeing the noticeable change and the quickly decreasing pain and swelling makes me think I really chose the clinic well. If possible, I would like to have the pin removal surgery here later too.. For now, I think I’ll decide after seeing all the residual swelling go down.
