I received a lot of help and information from this community, so I’m writing this in hopes it will help others!
7 years ago, I had my first surgery using silicone and ear cartilage (nasal tip), and I had been living happily with it. Then 2 years ago, I started having pain such as silicone movement, pain, tenderness, a foreign-body sensation, and deviation.
So while I was looking into complete removal, I was afraid I would develop a saddle nose or upturned nose, so I had revision surgery where the silicone and ear cartilage (nasal tip) were removed (no capsule removal; it was cut into small pieces and placed on the nasal bridge), and because the alar cartilage had folded, a septal support graft was placed to reconstruct the alar cartilage. After the silicone was removed, the nasal tip lifted slightly, so septal cartilage and reused ear cartilage were placed on the nasal bridge near the nasal tip.
But two months ago, I started having abnormal pain again, so for a month I searched online and went to consultations, and then I had the removal done at a hospital that does pure removals.
Of course I worried about the shape, but for me the pain came first, so I went into complete removal with the mindset that it would be fine as long as I didn’t end up like Voldemort.
I’m usually not nervous about surgery, so I went alone and took the bus home (2 hours away), but on the way back, I guess the anesthesia was wearing off because it started throbbing and hurting ㅠ I had cotton packing in my nose for three days, and you end up visiting the hospital four times: 1. cotton removal (not by the director) 2. splint and outer stitch removal 3. inner stitch removal 4. one-month visit! I’m taking contracture medication, and I’m going this morning for my one-month follow-up, so I’m looking forward to it!
My current symptoms are occasional pressure and stinging at the nasal tip, and the biggest issue is that the columella area is so hard that I can’t smile.. Also, I’m not sure if the mucous membrane inside my nose is swollen or if it’s scar tissue, but there’s something that bothers my breathing, so I’m going to ask about it today!
For those considering removal, first think about what your priority is! For me, pain came first, so I had complete removal. They said the pain might not go away even with complete removal, but I still thought I would feel more at ease when nothing had been manipulated in my nose than when something had, so I chose complete removal.
If shape is your priority, you could consider options like leaving only the columellar strut. Still, I personally think complete removal is better for living comfortably going forward..

And I think it will be hard for me to share the first-surgery hospital and revision hospitalㅠ In the case of the revision hospital, they did the surgery well, but I think my nose just didn’t tolerate nose surgery well, which caused the pain, so I feel a bit uncomfortable sharing it ㅠㅠ
