My eyes were perfectly monolid, but not the pretty kind of monolid like Seulgi or Cho Yi-hyun, so I think I lived with double eyelid glue or double eyelid tape for about 3 years lol. I went to a school famous for its fencing team, and when I was a student, teachers would ask me if I was on the fencing team... I think I had a stronger masculine image than feminine haha. On top of that, back then I didn’t know how to dress up, so I didn’t even shape my eyebrows, which may have made me look even more that way...
Anyway, after I started using double eyelid glue and tape, I did hear that I looked pretty sometimes, but once I became an adult, doing double eyelid glue before makeup every day became annoying.. I could also feel my eyelids gradually stretching... So with the Lunar New Year holiday money I had saved little by little as a student, I went ahead with double eyelid surgery
When looking into hospitals, I prioritized surgery reviews! I think I searched through every double eyelid surgery review posted on the apps, and among them, I narrowed it down to hospitals with many natural reviews that didn’t look too obvious. An inline crease felt too natural and seemed like it would get covered by my stretched upper eyelids, and a semi-out line felt like it would change my image too much, so I asked for a natural in-out line!
I went to consultations at quite a few hospitals, and most of them told me I needed ptosis correction, you know? The light in my left eye looked a bit more covered compared to my right, and I thought it was because the skin on the left side drooped more. But they said to fix this, I would need ptosis correction! Since most hospitals said that, I thought ptosis correction must be essential, and then I went to the final hospital consultation. I first said, “I’d like the line to be in-out, and because I have ptosis, I also want ptosis correction,” and the director tilted his head, touched my eyebrows here and there, and had me close and open my eyes several times.
Then he said, “I don’t think you need ptosis correction,” lol. So I asked, “Why...?” and he said that originally, East Asian monolids inevitably have to open their eyes with eyebrow strength “to some extent.” He said this level doesn’t need ptosis correction, and because of the stretched skin, I would likely only need surgery by incision.... He said it as if it were so obvious, so I trusted him immediately... Since I wasn’t getting ptosis correction, the estimate came out much cheaper than at other hospitals too;;
It was a private clinic specializing in eye surgery... Since it was an eye-specialty clinic, I think I trusted it even more. So I guess it was only natural that I decided I should get surgery at this hospital...? I just felt strongly drawn to it lol!
Since I was getting surgery anyway, I also wanted to open up the blocked inner corners of my eyes and make them a little clearer, so I got medial epicanthoplasty together. Maybe because it was eye surgery, it seemed to finish earlier than I expected lol. After surgery, when the anesthesia wore off, the sensation in my eyes felt unfamiliar, but maybe because I took my medication well and followed the precautions carefully, there wasn’t any particular pain. Every time I visited the hospital, they also did swelling laser treatment, so considering I got incision plus canthoplasty, I really didn’t have much swelling. They said if scar tissue developed, they would take responsibility and care for it too, but far from scar tissue, even the swelling went down quickly, so by one month, my eyes didn’t look like I had double eyelid surgery.
Residual swelling will continue to go down steadily, so I’ll have to keep watching, but the eyes I have now are exactly the feeling I wanted, so I’m completely satisfied!! I’m going to throw away all my double eyelid glue..
