This is my 3-month postoperative review.
I had incisional ptosis correction and lower lateral canthoplasty.
My current satisfaction with the surgical result is 7/10 (1 month) -> 8/10 (2 months) -> 8.5/10 (3 months)
* What I’m satisfied with 1-month review) First of all, I’m very satisfied that my eyes got bigger. They definitely became larger than before, and my eye-opening strength improved. I’m also highly satisfied with the eye shape. If you compare it with before surgery, you’ll see that it became very pretty. I’m especially satisfied with the lower lateral canthoplasty line. I worried a lot about whether to do it because of the cost and possible side effects, but I think I made the right decision. Most of all, I think it will settle naturally, so I’m looking forward to after all the swelling goes down.
2-month review) The satisfaction I felt at 1 month remained, and it became more natural. So my satisfaction was originally 7, but I raised it to 8.
3-month review) I raised it a little because I’ve been getting a lot of compliments from people, but personally, the parts I’m dissatisfied with still haven’t been resolved, so it’s 8.5.
* What I’m dissatisfied with 1-month review) My satisfaction dropped a little because of an unexpected wrinkle between the eyebrows after surgery and uneven eyes. Also, since the swelling has not fully gone down yet, I don’t know what shape it will settle into, so I debated between 8 and 7 and rated it 7. I do feel a bit anxious: Will the swelling really go down? Will it be okay once the swelling goes down? Will the lower lateral canthoplasty line really be corrected?
2-month review) The wrinkle between the eyebrows has become more natural than before. I don’t know if the swelling will go down more from here, but it has become more natural than before. I’m still worried about the asymmetry. Other people say it looks fine, but from my perspective, it keeps bothering me. Also, around after 6 weeks, I felt a “tak!” sound and pain from the eye, and since then it feels like the eye shape changed slightly. In photos, there doesn’t seem to be a big difference, but it keeps bothering me whenever I look at it. I plan to ask again at my 3-month hospital visit. There is still scar tissue at the outer corner of the eye. I got an injection at 1 month and it improved a little, but there is still enough scar tissue that it bothers me. As time passes and the eyes become more natural, it feels like the upper eyelid area is drooping again. My eyes feel heavy, and I’m opening them with my forehead again, so I plan to ask about this at the follow-up visit as well.
3-month review) The scar tissue has improved a lot, and other areas have not changed much from the 2-month review. However, during the follow-up visit, we discussed revision surgery at 6 months if I’m still dissatisfied with the shape: raising the line a little (the issue of the upper eyelid area drooping) and doing a little more lower canthoplasty on the left eye (to correct the asymmetry). I’m also a little dissatisfied with the lateral canthoplasty and the lower canthoplasty on the right eye, but they said that was the maximum possible. Still, I plan to ask once more at 6 months.
* Detailed explanation to prevent misunderstandings 1. By the wrinkle between the eyebrows, I mean a wrinkle that forms along the double eyelid line between the epicanthal fold and the upper eyelid area when I open my eyes wide. They say it can’t be helped depending on a person’s eyes. It is not a surgical problem, but my satisfaction dropped slightly because it was an unexpected wrinkle. 2-month review) -> The wrinkle between the eyebrows is still there, but it has become more natural, so it no longer bothers me. 3-month review) -> Same as above. 2. In the case of uneven eyes, first it is because of the double eyelid line, and second because of the lower lateral canthoplasty shape. My satisfaction is currently slightly lower, but since the asymmetry has been improving compared with the early stage, I think my satisfaction will rise over time. They said that once the swelling goes down, there will be almost no difference in the double eyelid lines, and I also think it will improve. However, I am worried about whether the swelling will really go down. For the lower canthoplasty shape, the left eye is a bit smaller. They say it is a skeletal issue, but personally I wonder if there is a difference in the lower canthoplasty line itself. Still, they said we need to watch it over time. And if the difference is too significant, they said it could be corrected at the 3-month follow-up, so I’m not too worried. 2-month review) -> I still feel it, so I plan to ask at the 3-month visit. 3-month review) -> I asked, and I was told revision surgery is possible at 6 months.
3. When I say I’m dissatisfied, I mean dissatisfaction with the current condition or situation, not dissatisfaction with the hospital or the surgery itself. 2-month review) -> I’m more satisfied than at 1 month. 3-month review) -> I’m more satisfied than at 2 months.
4. About the snapping sound from the outer corner of the eye 2-month review) When I asked the hospital via message, I only received answers saying that this can happen and that there is no problem if there is no change in shape. Personally, it has reached the point where it bothers me every time I look in the mirror, but in photos and to other people, it does not show that much. 3-month review) I’m concerned about the lateral canthoplasty or lower canthoplasty shape, but the hospital only says it is fine. Their answer feels ambiguous, as if they mean the final shape is acceptable, or that it is fine because nothing really happened, so I did feel a bit upset about this part. Since revision surgery can be done at 6 months, I plan to watch it a bit longer for now. If I proceed with revision surgery at 6 months, I plan to ask again.
* Recommend vs. not recommend If I were asked whether I would recommend it to an acquaintance, I would want to recommend it. First of all, the director is kind, and if you have a consultation, you’ll understand, but he feels professional while also giving the impression that he will sufficiently reflect my requests. In reality, it proceeded that way too. I haven’t had surgery elsewhere, but usually many consultations either strongly recommend their own surgical method or say they can do whatever you ask without enough explanation about the method. No matter what question I asked, he answered kindly, and it may just be my feeling, but he appropriately reflected both the surgical method he recommended and my requests. Also, he gave me confidence until the end so I could trust him and go into surgery with peace of mind, and he designed the surgery carefully. I chose this hospital after visiting more than 10 places, and I do not regret my choice.
* Additional note just in case For people who are sensitive to the visible appearance of the hospital facilities or the consultation tone, I would recommend it a little cautiously. The waiting room and consultation room have a very clean-feeling interior, but the inner surgical waiting room or operating room relatively do not have that same feeling. It feels relatively less attended to. (Very subjective) Also, the consultant’s professionalism can feel somewhat cold. Of course, she is sufficiently kind and responds fully without any issue in terms of content. But how should I put it, when I’m curious about something and want to say what I want to say, rather than feeling like she is listening, it feels more like I’m hitting a wall? But that is just the feeling, and if you look only at the substance, there is absolutely nothing problematic. So for people who are sensitive and particular about each of these details, I would recommend it cautiously. Overall, the hospital atmosphere is like cold kindness? That kind of atmosphere.
