Monolid Surgery for Women

Before/after<Reason and purpose for having surgery> ->I was an unusual case because I wanted my eyes to look bigger while keeping my monolids. First of all, I had what I considered fairly pretty monolids: rather large eyes, protruding eyes, and the outer corners already open, so I was about 70% satisfied with my eyes. However, the inner corners were not open, and my eyelids covered the inner part of my eyes, hiding my pupils and making my eyes look sleepy. Therefore, since I was satisfied with my eyes except for those points, I wanted my eyes to look exactly like when I opened them with some effort, with only the covering over the inner corners removed. As a result, I wanted my eyes to become a little bigger too, like Seulgi or Kim Go-eun, with large monolid eyes without double eyelids.

<Reason for choosing the clinic> -> There are two reasons I chose Director Lee Ho-jun at Thank You. First, I liked the line the director designed for me the most compared with other clinics, and second, the director was extremely nice. Since my goal was to make my eyes bigger while maintaining monolids, I visited several clinics and looked into monolid surgery, monolid ptosis correction, and so on, but after going around to all the clinics, the conclusion was that if I wanted my eyes to get bigger, there would absolutely have to be an incision mark and I would have to create a small inner double eyelid. So I debated hundreds of times whether I should not have surgery and just live as I was, or whether I should make a small inner double eyelid. During that time, I met Director Lee Ho-jun at Thank You. My needs were to look as close to monolids as possible and to make my eyes bigger while showing as little double-eyelid line as possible. The other clinics before him said that medial epicanthoplasty + upper canthoplasty + ptosis correction + double-eyelid surgery were all necessary and had to be done together, and that no matter how low the line was set, the double-eyelid line would show at the outer part of the eyes, so it would be difficult to make eyes that looked like monolids. But Director Lee Ho-jun said that while it is true that the lower the line is placed, the smaller the eye-enlarging effect becomes, the line itself could be placed as low as the patient wanted so that it looked close to monolids. He also said that even without ptosis correction or canthoplasty, double-eyelid surgery alone could create the effect of making the inner corners look more open. He actually spent dozens of minutes adjusting the line and made an effort to keep the double-eyelid line from showing as much as possible, and as a result I decided to have the surgery. What moved me during this process was that, because the clinic was so crowded that I had to wait about an hour, I went in thinking the consultation would be rushed. But despite there being so many people, he was extremely kind and sincerely consulted both my mom and me for about 40 minutes (my mom had a consultation for lower-eye fat repositioning). However, in the end, I was still unsure whether to have surgery because the line would show when I closed my eyes or opened them low. After much consideration, I decided to go ahead because the director was so nice and I really liked the line he designed based on how my eyes looked when open.

<Surgical method> ->It was done with the non-incisional natural adhesion buried suture method. What was unusual was that he set the line higher in the front part of the eyes to address upper canthoplasty (medial epicanthoplasty) with double-eyelid surgery alone, without a canthoplasty incision, and set the line as low as possible in the outer part of the eyes so that when my eyes were open, the line would not show at the outer tail and would look like monolids. However, he said it was unavoidable that the double eyelid would show when looking downward or closing the eyes tightly.

<Result after surgery> -> It turned out exactly as the director said! When I open my eyes fully, they really look like monolids, and I could even see the effect of an upper canthoplasty. However, if I relax my eyes, the line shows a little (I was told that as time passes and the swelling goes down, the line will look lower and become less visible), and if I open my eyes low, the line definitely looks very large. I really, really like it when I open my eyes wide, but I am dissatisfied with the fact that the line shows when I don’t (this is something I already knew and heard from the doctor, and it is not the doctor’s fault), so I am watching the progress and thinking about what to do.
