Eye Re-Surgery@eye-redo

I had double eyelid surgery non-incision, but the eyes came undone, so I got revision surgery with incision

Before <before revision surgery> After <after revision surgery> I never thought revision surgery would be part of my life..

I had non-incision double eyelid surgery and epicanthoplasty in 2014, but after 2 years, the eyes slowly started to come undone and began to look sleepy, you know? I don’t know how it looked to other people, but I look at my own face the most and up close, so I think it became even more stressful. Above all, whenever I took photos, the asymmetry showed... Even friends who had no interest at all in plastic surgery or appearance would say, without any bad intent, that now that they looked closely, my left and right eyes were different and it was fascinating.. lol^^ I thought it might make things awkward if I said they were eyes I had double eyelid surgery on, so each time I just brushed it off by saying, I’m stressed because of my eyes~ lol Then I finally felt I couldn’t stand it anymore, so I decided on revision surgery.. I’m the type who suddenly gets hooked on something and acts on it right away rather than preparing myself mentally and then making a decision lolololol

During my first surgery, because friends said incision leaves scars and the swelling lasts almost a year, I insisted that I absolutely! wanted non-incision surgery, and I think that was the root of the problem. I found this out while going around for revision consultations, but even though I had double eyelids, my eye-opening strength was on the weak side... Selfies were okay, but in photos other people took, my left eye especially couldn’t use strength, so compared with the right eye, less of the iris was exposed (what people commonly call sparkle in the eyes lol). My eye-opening strength wasn’t good to begin with (I don’t think it was to the point of ptosis during my first surgery), and with the line coming undone after the non-incision surgery, my eyes had become even heavier...

Because revision surgery naturally made me more cautious, I mostly went around to eye-specialist clinics + revision-surgery clinics + private clinics (this one was optional).... I only kept going to clinics that vaguely said, since your eye-opening strength is weak, let’s definitely do ptosis correction~ But there was one clinic that put my photos up and explained the reason, asking whether I could see that the sparkle in both eyes was different, and that the reason less of my left iris was exposed was because its eye-opening strength was weaker than the right. So I decided on this place...

In a way, it’s such an obvious and simple basic process, but there were so many clinics that didn’t even explain that much, so I think it felt new to me. The director also held my eyebrows and had me open and close my eyes while looking closely several times. They said the left eye’s opening strength was definitely weak... In case the director’s diagnosis might be wrong, they checked several times and made it feel more certain, and I also liked that the director explained calmly in a gentle tone.

Anyway, I learned that my eye-opening strength wasn’t very good, and because I felt there should be no third surgery, I decided on incision + ptosis correction. I also disliked that the inner corners of my eyes looked closed off, so I decided to get epicanthoplasty too. Since I was having surgery anyway, I wanted a prettier line different from my first surgery, so I asked for a more glamorous, extended line and for the space between the upper eyelids to look narrower.

What I kept emphasizing until the day of surgery was to make the eyes that had come undone look big and defined, and to do the ptosis correction naturally without overcorrection. The director and consultant who accepted all my pickiness.. hehe.. I’m truly grateful and sorry ^_ㅠ

While the swelling was going down, I was really anxious because it still seemed like I had asymmetric eyes, but they said that because the eye-opening strength is different on each side, the ptosis correction was tied with different strength, so the swelling could be a little different too (because the left side is weaker, the left eye was tied a little more strongly). They said that once the swelling went down it would naturally even out and that we should wait a little longer, and the director didn’t seem like they were just desperately trying to soothe me without confidence; they were really calm, so I felt reassured. They’ve probably seen a lot of cases like this and knew it would settle well, so I think that’s why they seemed so confident.

Considering I had incision, ptosis correction, and epicanthoplasty, I really had very little swelling or bruising, and by one month, the swelling had gone down so much that there was no obvious sign of double eyelid surgery, and it seemed to have settled well. Since it was incision, they say I should watch the minor swelling for a few more months, but I’m already fully satisfied with my eyes right now!! My eyes got bigger like I wanted, and I think the ptosis correction was done well without overcorrection, so I feel good~~ They said they would also follow my progress for a long time, so I’m planning to go back in a few months and ask how much minor swelling is left. I hope everyone succeeds with revision surgery at a clinic they like!
