The reason I am posting a review about my current condition is to help people who are preparing for liposuction surgery or considering revision surgery make careful choices.
This review was written for the purpose of information sharing and describes objective facts.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
March 31
I underwent liposuction surgery at a place located near Apgujeong Station. (Areas: upper arms, armpits, accessory breasts, infraclavicular area, scapular area, bra line)
Because my body was not overweight, I asked them not to remove an excessive large volume and to do an appropriate amount. The consultation manager said the vice director was very good at surgery, so I should not worry, and that they would take care of it like they do for other people. I went into surgery feeling worried….
The total amount extracted as a result of surgery was 3,800 cc. For reference, the blood volume in a 60 kg adult is 4,000-5,000 cc.
The next day after surgery, when I saw myself wearing the compression garment, my arms really had become thinner, and my happiness lasted exactly that one day. I gradually began to swell, and my body itself hardened like stone, with continuing tightening pain, so it was extremely agonizing. Other people reduce the size of their compression garment several times over a month, but I could not reduce mine even once.
The adhesions and bio-bonding (fibrotic tissue hardened by clumping of remaining fat, blood, and tissue fluid after surgery) were severe, and the limitation in range of motion was also serious. My progress itself was different from other cases, and I became anxious. So I went to the aftercare shop recommended by the hospital 3 times a week and received scar-tissue injections twice at another clinic.
And at the hospital where I had surgery….
They repeatedly said they would provide radiofrequency treatment. However, in the actual consultation with the director, the director said, “Radiofrequency is not particularly meaningful; it is only an auxiliary measure. Wait. It will gradually get better. I do not know the mechanism by which fibrosis loosens, but it will soften. I do not know how long it will take. I do not really know what scar-tissue injections are, and if they are steroid injections, do not get them. You are not a revision surgery case. If you want something regarding other parts, speak with the hospital side.”
I did not go to that hospital to get a refund. My body condition was different from a common recovery process, and I was having such a hard time, suffering, and feeling anxious, so I went to ask what kind of progress is usually experienced and what help my attending doctor could provide to improve my symptoms. If there was nothing they could do…. I at least hoped they would monitor my progress. But…. I only heard such irresponsible answers and left.
After the consultation with the director, which hurt me so much,
I clearly told the hospital and the vice director that I would no longer receive treatment there. The trust between doctor and patient had already collapsed, and it was too difficult to travel two and a half hours round trip from home just to receive 15 minutes of radiofrequency treatment, which the vice director said had little significance as an auxiliary measure.
Liposuction is a surgery with high physical burden and high risk. I accepted that burden and the high cost and lay on the operating table, but the doctor did not care at all about the surgical outcome and avoided responsibility.
Please look at my arms. I am currently enduring by taking depression medication because my suicidal impulses are severe. I cannot wear short sleeves, and I, who used to like people, am experiencing social withdrawal. I am also in a state where I cannot date. Even small, ordinary parts of daily life, like going to a bathhouse or jjimjilbang with my family, have been taken away.
Only after undergoing liposuction surgery did I learn that many people suffer from side effects after it. And among the many victims including myself, not a single person received acknowledgment or an apology from the doctor.
A doctor is someone who heals people. I am also a doctor. That is why the shock is even greater. How can someone in the same medical profession do this?
No more!!! I hope no more victims like me are created. Although I am also a medical professional, I am reporting this to raise awareness about the cosmetic surgery medical field. Please widely share cases of harm and side effects.
