I joined this community because I really felt I had to leave a post for people like me who are struggling emotionally because the double eyelids created through natural adhesion/buried-suture surgery feel so awkward and hard to get used to. I’m sharing my experience!
In February 2023, I had my first cosmetic surgery at a plastic surgery clinic in Gangnam using the natural adhesion method. (Single-knot method, double buried sutures at about 5 points) Because I live overseas, when I came back to Korea this January, I had the buried sutures removed at the clinic where I had the surgery, a little under 1 year later. Originally, I also had a consultation at a place known for doing buried-suture removal well (that director Ch○○ who posts a lot of videos on YouTube), but I thought the clinic that did the surgery would know best, so I had it done there.
The nurse told me the thread removal only took 15 minutes, and my right eye came undone immediately on the same day it was released. From around 6 months in, when I woke up in the morning, my right eye would often form multiple eyelid creases, and it looked like the cheese-wiring phenomenon had happened, with the fixation and depth of the double eyelid becoming weak, so I expected it. (If you search on Naver, there are many posts explaining these anatomical concepts in great detail! Please read them~) My left eye had especially strong fixation at the inner front area, so it didn’t come undone right away. The pinched-in degree did seem very weak because it was natural adhesion, but still, the pinched mark(?)/line was clear only on the front 1/3.
Honestly, I was worried the adhesion might be severe and it wouldn’t come undone, so I searched Google and Naver in both Korean and English. From what I understood: - Natural adhesion is actually just a marketing term and is no different from ordinary buried-suture surgery. - The buried-suture method induces point-like adhesions (adhesions formed like dots, the opposite of sheet-like adhesions, as in the incisional method), and the adhesion strength is relatively weak. - In the eyelid, because the skin forms many folds, scar tissue mostly heals on its own, and scars rarely remain. - Adhesions can be loosened to some extent with massage.
That’s about it.
Because I massaged so diligently, today, exactly day 23, both sides came undone (= returned to my original inner double eyelids). When I went for the consultation at the plastic surgery clinic I mentioned earlier, the one said to be good at thread removal, they also told me to massage diligently. They said to rub my eyes and massage “gently.” For reference, I massaged hard. Painfully...
There is a massage method called the rolling technique for loosening fascial adhesions, and I applied that. With my eyes open: - I swept up/down along the adhesion line while stretching the skin in that area, or - I held the adhesion line left and right and rubbed it as if pinching it (at this time there was a thudding/crackling sound like the adhesion breaking once, and after that the line definitely became weaker), or - I just rubbed my eyes. (But you have to do this after the incision wound from the stitch removal has healed. Otherwise it will split open again)
It didn’t happen overnight, but doing this made them come undone. On one hand, I feel so relieved and happy, and on the other, I thought I should help people who have concerns similar to mine. If you leave questions in the comments, I’ll answer them all. Please don’t worry too much. It will go well.
