Lingual Orthodontic Treatment

Hello

I’m now in my 29th month of lingual orthodontic treatment. I feel like I’ll probably need about 6 more months from now. Originally, I was supposed to do it for 2 and a half years.

There isn’t much information about lingual orthodontic treatment, so I’m posting a review.

At first, I chose lingual braces because I was preparing to change jobs and thought I might have interviews, but I was really worried because there were many reviews saying it was difficult.

And in reality, for nearly 2 years, the ends of the orthodontic wires would stick out and poke my tongue and inner gums, so I went back to the dentist several times. I also swallowed brackets twice, and they came off several times, so I had to bring them back and have them reattached.

Because food gets stuck a lot in the inner braces when eating, a Waterpik is essential. It’s okay now, but in the beginning, hard foods hurt, so I ended up avoiding them. Because of that, I lost about 5 kg and my face became much slimmer.

As for the results now, my protruding teeth have moved in a lot and become straighter, but the midline doesn’t match, so they said they’ll adjust that later. I can eat well without avoiding foods, but there’s nothing I can do about food getting stuck in the appliance. And I barely have any pain now, but I often feel like the inner part of my throat is swollen. I think the wire is touching the inner gums even if only slightly. At first, because of this pain, I got tested for COVID several times, but the day after dental treatment, maybe because I had my mouth open a lot, my throat pain was a bit worse. Now I just take it as it is.

When the wire poked me and hurt, I sometimes wondered why I was going this far, but looking back now, I want to say it was more manageable than I expected. I also think one advantage is that you can see the effects right away. I hope this helps anyone considering lingual orthodontic treatment.
