It’s been about 3 years since I got double-eyelid surgery at the “ophthalmology department” of a university hospital. My eyelashes were poking my eyes soooo badly, so I looked into upper eyelid + lower eyelid surgery, but I was a student at the time and my parents didn’t know much about the field either. Even though I researched on my own, I couldn’t find a place that would do lower eyelid surgeryㅠㅠ So I just went to the doctor my mom’s friend had surgery with and got it done,, That was the first time I learned that ophthalmology also has a field called oculoplastic surgery. Anyway, the professor was so kind that I felt reassured and went through with it.
That personal story got too long, so I’ll explain the pros/cons.
Pros -Surgery cost was very cheap (300,000 won) -Reliability of being a university hospital
Cons -Lower aesthetic quality -You shouldn’t expect the level of a plastic surgery clinic
Before the surgery, we consulted about various things, and the professor said my original eye shape was very pretty and that we should make the line as thin as possible,, But I’m easily swayed, so I said okay again. Instead, I asked them to remove fat from my eyes, and they had even marked all the dots for surgery, but then the doctor said that once fat is removed, it can’t be put back in, so my easily-swayed instincts kicked in again and I said okay,, As a result, I was satisfied with the surgery at first. But,, About a month later, a bulging inflammation developed in one eye, so I went to the hospital and had all the sutures removed again. About a year later, the lower eyelid in that area came undone, so I had revision surgery,,
In the end, one of my double eyelids is undone now too hahahaha I just don’t have time right now, so I’m not getting revision surgery; if I had time, I’d do it right away. Anyway, it turned out extremely thin and uneven, so no one knows I got double-eyelid surgeryㅋㅌㅋㅌㅋ
Conclusion: If you’re only going based on a medical opinion or you really don’t have money, it’s okay to go to a university hospital. Otherwise, just go to a plastic surgery clinic,,
