Two Consultations for Double-Jaw Surgery + Facial Contouring (Long Post Warning)

Both are oral and maxillofacial surgery clinics.

My condition : I had orthodontic treatment when I was young, but my open bite relapsed. I can't bite off food with my front teeth. My face isn't severe, but the asymmetry is visible at a glance. My facial skeleton and muscles themselves are on the large and thick side. I also have quite a bit of fat. To other people, my face looks like, "Why would you get double-jaw surgery when you don't seem to need it???" but from a doctor's perspective, it is indeed a double-jaw surgery case.

Clinic A : Took a CT, had a consultation with the consultant, then a consultation with the director, then another consultation with the consultant. Overall, they were very kind and I felt the consultation system was well organized. There were also questions about other clinics, but personally I didn't mind. From the patient's perspective, they carefully pointed out one by one what inconveniences I might have had in daily life, and they explained the CT analysis and surgical method well.

(Even though many people usually want surgery first) they stated firmly from the beginning that orthodontics had to be done first, so I trusted them a lot.

Even though I didn't ask first, they noticed my air-leaking pronunciation and first mentioned that my pronunciation may or may not be corrected after surgery, and also explained the cause. I liked that they were attentive about this + it gave me trust.

Both the director and the consultant were attentive in picking up on what the patient might be curious about.

They mentioned that they had worked in plastic surgery for a long time and looked confident.

I asked about septal damage during surgery, and they answered that they preserve it as much as possible while telling me various episodes.

When I went back to the consultant consultation, it was also good that they could explain using patients with similar cases as examples.

From imaging to the end of the consultation, it was clean and satisfactory. I liked that I could know the orthodontic fee right away.

I generally liked the fact that they perform one surgery per day, the postoperative care, etc. It felt like communication was good. Trust level was high. The price was not on the low side. Consultation fee was 10,000 won.

Clinic B : Likewise, took a CT and made dental impressions. Consultation with consultant > consultation with director > consultation with consultant

I went for a consultation because the doctor's experience felt trustworthy. The dental hygienist (I assume) and the consultant were very kind. As soon as you enter, it strongly feels like a dental clinic.

I felt that they analyzed the face carefully even with the naked eye. Above all, this clinic clearly tries to understand the patient's needs. They said they had experience at a university hospital and brought that system over as is. (As for the system, I don't work there so I don't know, but the documents definitely looked that way.) It seemed like they had not been open as a private clinic for very long, and personally I liked that part. (???)

The Q&A/consultation centered on my needs, and it felt like they were trying to match them as much as possible. (Since many people usually want surgery first) they indirectly said that surgery first would be possible if I wanted it... When I said I was fine with doing orthodontics first, they said then let's do orthodontics first.

They explained the facial analysis and surgical method well. What stood out was that they strongly appealed to me in terms of design and aesthetics, because they plan the design in quite a lot of detail. I felt confident that communication with the patient would be very good regarding design. Rather than each director having their own particular style, I really liked that they would reflect the patient's opinion as much as possible on things like how much to set back and how much to leave, so I don't think there will be anything to worry about regarding design, and I'm not worried at all.

The clinic itself is relatively new, so it was slightly disappointing that I couldn't see many before-and-after surgical cases. Likewise, after the director consultation, I was able to have a consultant consultation using patients with similar cases as examples.

It was near closing time, so I was pressed for time and couldn't finish asking my questionsㅠㅠ I couldn't know the orthodontic fee for sure, but the price range was similar.

Likewise, I liked the fact that they perform one surgery per day, the postoperative care, etc. The price was more reasonable than expected. Consultation fee was free.

Conclusion: I'm torn. I should go around to more places, but consultations aren't easy either.
