A review I’m writing after more than 3 years since surgery...
First of all, I had surgery at a private clinic, and it wasn’t a place I found by going around for consultations myself. It was a case where the dental clinic where I was getting orthodontic treatment referred me! I’m the type who’s really indifferent, so I got the surgery without thinking much..... Later, I found out it was a famous place!! Thankfully it ended well, butㅜㅜ if it were now, I don’t think I’d do it as thoughtlessly as I did back thenㅋㅋ
First, I had it done as soon as I turned 20, it’s been over 3 years since surgery, and now I’m living daily life without much trouble! For me, the cosmetic purpose was important too, but above all, no side effects!!! was the most important part, so I said I didn’t want to overdo it by pulling the jaw back too much, and I think they did it naturally to match that! First, there weren’t any major sensory abnormalities or nerve-related side effects that I was most worried about. Of course, for about 9 months after surgery, if I touched along the jawline, it would tingle or feel a bit numb... but after that, almost 95% of sensation came back, and bothersome pain or tightness also disappeared And functionally, since my occlusion fit well, it did become a little easier to chew with my front teeth. But since I didn’t have an extremely severe protruding lower jaw, I didn’t feel a huge difference...
Honestly, for the cosmetic part, I thought I’d be satisfied as long as the protruding lower jaw, which was my complex, returned to normal occlusion, so I don’t think I had high expectations First, as I’d hoped, the protruding lower jaw was perfectly corrected, and I also liked that my long chin became a bit shorter Of course it wasn’t an extremely dramatic change, but I think it was a satisfying result for me My family thought it was fascinating when they saw me, but my friends didn’t really notice much...ㅎ Honestly, double jaw surgery is really expensive, right? But when friends said it didn’t change that dramatically, I felt a slight reality check. Still, since I already did it, I’m going to think only about the improved parts...ㅋㅋㅋ After about a year, once even the minor swelling had all gone down, I thought I’d be able to live without major worriesㅜ but little by little, things started to bother me!
First, I don’t think my jaw occlusion was perfectly corrected.. Every time I opened my mouth, there was a sound from my jaw, and my jaw felt stiff... Because of this, I went to another dental clinic with an oral and maxillofacial specialist, and they said it’s one of the common side effects of double jaw surgeryㅜ They said it’s because the muscles around the jaw that were cut and reattached during surgery became weakened. They just told me not to open my mouth wide..... ㅎ But it’s not like I can’t even wrap and eat ssam... So I do open my mouth whether it makes a sound or not, but I can’t open it widely because I’m conscious of itㅜㅜ
The biggest daily inconvenience is that, but cosmetically what bothers me the most is sagging under the chin..ㅜㅜ Since I had a protruding lower jaw, I guess they set my jaw back more than I expectedㅜㅠ It seems like sagging developed. My jawline disappeared to the point that it’s not visible at all, so my side profile became a new complex...ㅎㅎ I’m an average weight, but even if I lose weight and become thin, I don’t get a jawline, and if I lower my head just a little, I immediately get a double chin. Because of this, I’ve developed a habit of lifting my chin up.... So these days I’m looking into liposuction or double chin surgeryㅜ But those also have quite a few side effects, and I’ve heard it can get worse later as you ageㅜ so I think it’s a side effect that bothers me a lot...ㅠ
Anyway, I’m a bit indifferent, so I quickly forget minor things, and I only wrote about the discomforts that have kept bothering me until recently! This is my personal experience, so please just use it as reference!!
