I wore contact lenses for about ten years, and they gradually became more uncomfortable. I also felt like my vision was getting worse, so I started looking into SMILE LASIK~
I narrowed it down based on three conditions (recommended by people around me + not a factory-style clinic + a doctor with a lot of surgical experience), and I had eye exams at two places. I felt this place checked things more thoroughly, so I scheduled the surgery.
The price was a Chuseok event price. (They said they would refund 100,000 won if I posted a review on a certain community, but I didn’t do it)..
On the day of surgery, maybe because of the Chuseok event, there were so many people and the hospital was so crowded that I regretted it. If you have time, avoid getting surgery around Chuseok or Lunar New Year!!
When I read other people’s reviews, they said they could see clearly right after surgery, but that wasn’t the case for me.
I had high myopia of -7.5 and astigmatism of -1.25. A lot of tissue was ablated, and maybe because of that, my recovery took a long time tooㅜㅜ Until about 2-3 weeks, dryness, glare/halos, and fine focusing were uncomfortable. Because of UV rays, I always wore sunglasses during the day..! Now that it’s been a month, I feel like I’ve almost fully recovered.
The pros are that before surgery, my eyes were dry every day because of contact lenses, and every night I desperately wanted to take them out, but now that no longer happens..? I don’t have to worry about swimming pools or bathhouses eitherㅎㅎ I also don’t have to look for my glasses when I wake up, and daily life has become more convenient. Even the dryness that everyone worries about was okay for me after I recovered.
The downside is that recovery took longer than I expected, so I spent the time worrying a lot, thinking something had gone wrong with the surgery.. I think I went back to the hospital about three timesㅜㅜ Still, the hospital was kind until the end, so I felt a little more at ease.
And this is a bit delicate to say, but.. I think I developed glare/halos. Before surgery, if I wasn’t wearing glasses or contact lenses, I was basically blind, so I didn’t even know whether I had glare, and when I wore contact lenses, I definitely didn’t have glare..?
After surgery, there’s no problem during the day, but at night I have glare/halos, so vehicle headlights and things like that feel uncomfortable to my eyes. At first it was really severe, and now it has reduced a lot, but personally I don’t think it will completely disappear..ㅎㅎ For reference, this is despite the fact that my pupils are on the smaller side at night!
In the end, I don’t regret the surgery, but I think I’d still be cautious about actively recommending it. I hope you think carefully about the pros and cons before getting surgery~~
