Today I finally had a full removal done. I had nose surgery in early July (septum, nostril reduction, ear cartilage, silicone), and from right after the surgery, the foreign-body sensation was unbearable. I didn’t like the shape either... So I looked into early removal a lot and had consultations too, but for the time being I decided to wait and do it after 6 months. Because I thought maybe my mind might change... The foreign-body sensation improved a lot, but I still didn’t think I could live like this for the rest of my life, treating my nose like royalty... They say you can blow your nose and swim and do everything, but I was still afraid something might go wrong or a serious complication could happen, so I really lived while handling my nose very, very carefully. One day I was playing with my nephew/niece and my nose and their head bumped into each other, and it really rang through my head. It hurt so much, and I was scared something might go wrong... So I firmly decided to remove it for peace of mind. Around October, I booked consultations at places said to be famous for removal, and at one of them I had a consultation around the end of December and scheduled the surgery right away.
Through this community, I read basically every post by people who had been considering early removal, removal, and full removal, and people who had done it. I also messaged people who had been in situations similar to mine, and I was really comforted a lot by the warm, sincere advice they gave and the posts they left.
For me too, it was truly 6 months of hell... I think I endured it just waiting for the day of removal, telling myself let’s just hold out until then, let’s live, it will get easier. Today I had the surgery under sedation and local anesthesia, and it didn’t hurt. I’m also a bit insensitive to pain, but after it was all over they told me the surgery went well, showed me photos of the condition at different points, showed me what had been removed, and said it went well, so I felt reassured.
Now I’ll go in two days to have the packing removed, in a week to have the stitches taken out, and in two weeks for a follow-up too. I’ll post updates on my recovery!
The hospital was one of the “top three,” in the Sinnonhyeon area. The price was in the high 3 million won range.
Oh, for medication, I was prescribed one week of antibiotics and one month of medication to prevent contracture, and they said I have to take them.
