After surgery, Dr. Yoo Kyung-han explained to me that the procedure had been performed according to the method in the paper “V-Y advancement and turnover flap,” while repeatedly saying that the procedure was not a V-Y technique. Even when I, the patient, asked, “Isn’t a turnover flap performed during V-Y surgery?”, Dr. Yoo denied that it was a V-Y technique. However, as can be seen from the paper’s title, “V-Y advancement and turnover flap,” the surgical method is described as a technique using V-Y advancement; the paper itself says the same, and other plastic surgeons also describe it as a V-Y technique. In addition, papers on medial canthoplasty reversal distinguish V-Y advancement and turnover flap as a surgical method separate from Z-plasty. Nevertheless, after surgery Dr. Yoo told me it was not V-Y, while during the civil lawsuit he claimed that the turnover flap in V-Y advancement and turnover flap corresponded to Z-plasty. Therefore, Dr. Yoo’s explanation objectively conflicts with the contents of the paper and the classification of the technique. As a patient operated on by Dr. Yoo, I believe that a plastic surgeon must provide the patient with an objective and clear explanation, consistent with medical evidence, of the surgical method performed. Only then can patients consider their symptoms and the principles of the surgery and make their own decisions. However, even though I repeatedly asked Yoo, pleading with him over a long period after surgery, I had to listen to his repeated explanation that it was “not V-Y,” and he concealed these objective facts while writing a self-serving statement. Dr. Yoo’s actions led to a civil lawsuit and even a physical examination for litigation. As someone who underwent surgery by Yoo, I am posting this for the public interest based on objective facts. Please review these circumstances when deciding whether to consult and undergo surgery. The final decision is up to each individual.
