Review on day 3 after lateral and lower canthoplasty for my previously small, narrow eyes
The reason I decided to have surgery was that I’m an aspiring announcer, and after doing camera tests, I objectively looked really bad on camera. My eyes are on the shorter side compared with the width of my face, so people around me recommended lateral and lower canthoplasty. So I looked into it and finally! got it done!!
Reason I selected the hospital: I went to other hospitals too, but the reason I chose this place was that the other directors felt like they had no interest in my eyes, and they all spoke negatively, saying they couldn’t widen them much. But as soon as the director here saw me, he said, “The outer corner of your right eye is more upturned, isn’t it? I’ll pull that side down more.” When I heard that, I thought, ah, this is the place, and immediately paid the deposit and set the surgery date. (I’m obsessed with symmetry, so my right outer eye corner was a real complex for me ㅠㅠ)
For the consultation and surgery, I arrived at 4:30 and surgery was scheduled for 5:30. I had the consultation with the consultant first and then with the director. My request was to pull the eyes as much as possible so they would look good on broadcast, but within a range that would not cause conjunctival exposure. (I whined asking him to make me look like a celebrity, so thank you to the director for not getting angry...) There was almost no delay from consultation to surgery, and everything went smoothly, so after about a 1-hour consultation, I went straight into the operating room ㄷㄷ
For the surgery, they put me under sedation, did local anesthesia, and then operated while I was awake. I was surprised because the surgery took much longer than I expected. Many double-eyelid surgeries are finished in 30 minutes, but here it felt like it took almost 2 hours. It hurt here and there during the procedure, but it wasn’t unbearable!
After surgery, I lay in the recovery room and did cold compresses, but no one came until the cold pack had completely warmed up...ㅠ I had to drag my swollen eyes around saying, excuse me...ㅠㅠㅠㅠ and only then was I finally able to leave. (Please pay a little attention to me in the recovery room ㅠㅠㅠ) I called my mom because I heard that after lateral and lower canthoplasty, objects can look like 2 or 3 because of the anesthetic put in the eyes, but after sleeping for about 20-30 minutes in the recovery room and coming out, those symptoms disappeared. (I think this depends on the person)
Swelling process: day of surgery (slight conjunctival edema in the right eye, almost no swelling) -> day 1 (conjunctival edema in both eyes + swelling under the eyes) -> day 2 (conjunctival edema in both eyes + the eyelids and even the area between the eyebrows were swollen, and because the swelling was going down a little differently on each side, sometimes they looked uneven and sometimes they looked symmetrical, so I spent the whole day taking photos to check whether the symmetry matched or not ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ) Also, from day 2, you can go for walks! So I walked like crazy. -> day 3 (conjunctival edema in both eyes + forehead + cheekbones + nose all swollen) I walked hard that day too. Strangely, while walking, my eyes would open a little bit? So I walked hard thinking I should walk more than 10,000 steps a day!
The photo is of a cat I took while walking ㅋㅋㅋ I’m bored and can’t make plans because of the swelling, so these days I feel like all I do is walk... Anyway, that’s it for my day 3 review! I’ll bring the next review too!
