A Very Old Review of Double Eyelid Surgery

I'll try writing this from memory It was when I was in high school.. My mom took me by the hand, and I went to the hospital with my younger sibling

We were confused, and then they said we were going to have surgery I was like, what is this.. but she had already made all the appointments in advance My mom and the doctor persuaded us, saying they were trying to make us look pretty and we ended up lying on the operating table.

I remember the doctor was full of confidence and somehow seemed to be enjoying himself a bit. They said they removed fat from my eyes, and his exclamations like “wow, wow” felt a little burdensome. As he was doing that, he later showed it to us, and I think quite a lot really did come out.

They said the surgery went well, but we were a bit exhausted. After the surgery, when we came home and I saw my very swollen eyes and face, it felt like my life was over. I somehow didn't even have the energy to get angry, so I stopped eating and drinking and just cried and my younger sibling screamed at the top of their lungs to give their eyes back.

A month passed like that, and our eyes became so pretty that it was embarrassing how much of a fuss we had made. My eyes were not originally big, so they made the line not too large, and they became naturally pretty, so I was satisfied. My younger sibling's eyes were long horizontally but had a lot of fat, so their eyes became really big. But because the line was made a bit large, at first it looked somewhat obvious but pretty, and now it looks very natural.

It was so fascinating how a person could change so much just from doing their eyes. Now I don't even remember what my face looked like before double eyelid surgery..

My younger sibling was fine, but in my case, my left eye came undone once about 6 or 7 years later.

I went back to the hospital, but that doctor had left for China, and there was a new doctor. They said it came undone because the opening strength of my left eye was weak, so I only had my left eye done again. At that time, I also wanted to try epicanthoplasty because they said it would make my eyes bigger, but they advised against it, saying my eyes would look too close together because the distance between my eyes was not wide, so I didn't do it.

They said I did have a slight tendency toward ptosis(?), but that I didn't need eye shape correction, and they told me to get into the habit of opening my eyes by putting strength into my eyes, not my forehead. My eyes turned out well, as expected! A long time has passed since then, and maybe my habit is still the problem, sometimes they do look uneven, but not enough to bother me, so I'm still doing fine. It was a surgery I ended up getting unexpectedly, but double eyelid surgery was a surgery I was really satisfied with.
