(Slightly shaved the hump, slightly reduced the columella, and had nasal tip surgery with ear cartilage. No silicone or other implants were used.)
Day of surgery, September 1
<Before surgery>
I had an appointment at 10 a.m. on the day of surgery, and after arriving at the hospital, I washed my face, saw the counseling manager and then the director in order, paid the surgery fee, and moved to the operating room
This was my revision surgery, and after my first surgery I had an experience where I suspected I might have received ghost surgery (just a feeling, though;;), so because I was anxious, I asked them to film the surgery scene, and they filmed it on my phone and saved it for me (I mentioned it about 3 times in case filming might not be possible, so I might have seemed like a difficult patient.. Sorry lololololol)
For the surgery footage, they neatly kept the gory parts out of frame and filmed it to the extent that I could confirm the director was continuously performing the surgery, so you don’t need to worry unnecessarily
<Immediately after surgery>
I opened my eyes in the recovery room around 12:45, and I felt a bit dizzy and languid The director came and told me what surgery had been done before leaving, and other than my nose feeling a bit stingy, there was nothing uncomfortable They said they did not touch the nasal septum and did not put cotton in my nose, so breathing was extremely comfortable
I was discharged around 1:30, stopped by the pharmacy to buy my prescription medication, 3 swelling medicines (Danggwisusan, Tripline, Berad tablets), and sterile cotton swabs, then took the subway home as a walk I got up then because I wanted to go home quickly and rest comfortably, but the atmosphere seemed like you could ask to rest a bit longer if you were not feeling well
On the day of surgery, there was no pain in either my nose or ear, and there was almost no swelling (only a little swelling by evening?)
As evening went on, nosebleed and discharge blocked my nose and made breathing a little difficult, but I still slept well while breathing through my nose
September 2 When I woke up in the morning, my nose was a bit more blocked, so I started breathing through my mouth, and I briefly had a slightly tingling feeling at the nasal tip A throbbing ear pain that I did not have on the day of surgery started in the morning and got better by evening
I went to the hospital for disinfection and a swelling injection, and the staff member on the 5th floor who did this was super kind and bright, so it put me in a good mood
Because there was so little pain, I kept absentmindedly touching my nose and ear, which scared me; thanks to that, I slept a little poorly that day
I diligently disinfected, applied ointment, and went for walks. The swelling was about the same as the first evening
September 3
I took the swelling medicine regularly and walked hard, but.. from around lunchtime, I swelled up a lot
I thought maybe it was because I ate tteokbokki on the day of surgery and ate steamed blue crab and the leftover tteokbokki the next day,
or because many reviews say swelling peaks on days 3 to 5,
but by evening my hands and feet were all swollen and felt numb, so I had a bad feeling and checked the side effects of the 3 swelling medicines. Berad tablets (same for Banosin) had pseudoaldosteronism listed as a side effect, which can cause swelling of the face, hands, and feet
They say it is a side effect caused by licorice ingredients, and Danggwisusan also contains overlapping licorice, so I suspected that might be why,
After checking this side effect, I removed Berad tablets and reduced it to 2 swelling medicines lol (I had bought 4 boxes for one week, but had 2 unopened boxes left, so I got a refund at the pharmacy on the day my stitches were removed)
And that day I washed my hair for the first time after surgery. Water could not touch my nose or ear, so I poked breathing holes in the opening part of a disposable hair cap, wore it on my face, and washed my hair lol
September 4 After not taking Berad tablets for about a day, the swelling sensation in my hands and feet definitely subsided from around evening, so I felt relieved But my face was puffy, so I diligently did cold compresses For two days after surgery, I slept on a reclining sofa, but it was so uncomfortable that from the third night I started sleeping in bed propped up with cushions and pillows
September 5 to 6 The swelling around my eyes went down a lot, so it became similar to days 1 to 2 when there was almost no swelling
Because the swelling went down, I also started neglecting compresses On the 4th, I thought it was fascinating that the nasal incision scar was not red and was almost invisible, but as expected, it became a little red
September 7
The long-awaited day of splint removal
I went to the hospital, had the stitches and splint removed, put on molding so the ear cartilage would not deform, saw the director once, then received a nose scrub and swelling laser before coming back (They say to wear the molding 24 hours a day for about 1 to 2 weeks, removing it only when water touches it, but I plan to wear it a bit longer just in case)
After removing the splint, what I saw was.. a bulbous nose ㅠㅠㅠ
Maybe because the columella was slightly reduced, my philtrum also looked long, and when I looked in the mirror there was someone who looked like a cheerful cartoon protagonist, so I was really shocked
I know it is swelling.. My head understands, but emotionally it was a bit… yeah.
And as for the part where the ear cartilage was taken, the front incision was placed in an area that is originally hard to see, so it is difficult even for me to see in the mirror and there is almost no scar, but on the back of the ear, the area where the cartilage was removed is sunken inward
I don’t think this is because the surgery went wrong; since the cartilage that maintained the ear shape is gone, it seems like a natural phenomenon where that part becomes indented..? Still, from the front or side, the ear shape looks the same, so if you are about to have your first rhinoplasty using ear cartilage, it would be good to mentally prepare in advance
September 8 to 10
The glabella, nasal bridge, and nasal ala were all so swollen, but the rate at which it went down was so extremely subtle that I had stressful days not knowing whether it was going down or not
I spent anxious, nervous days reading other people’s reviews saying their swelling lasted for months and wondering what I would do if mine kept not going down like this, then suddenly thought, should I try cold compresses instead of warm compresses? So I did cold compresses on the evening of the 10th, and it felt like the swelling went down a bit more
September 11 Whether it was just time for it to go down, or really thanks to the cold compresses.. now it is noticeable that the swelling has gone down I still have a bulbous nose and a lot of glabellar swelling, but I’m starting to feel little by little that I look prettier rather than uglier
Because a lot of swelling remains, I can see some asymmetry on both sides too, but now I plan to watch it without getting anxious
The nasal incision site healed well, and although there is still some redness, it is not severe, so when I apply Fucidin, it is not very noticeable
