Ten years ago, I had open rhinoplasty at [Clinic A] using silicone, ear cartilage, and septal cartilage. I had no major complications, but over time I developed a foreign-body sensation and wanted a more natural result, so I kept thinking I should have it removed. I narrowed down several clinics through this community, visited them for consultations, and made a reservation.
I am writing a brief consultation review.
[Clinic B] (consultation fee 10,000 won): A—silicone removal, nasal-tip adjustment (ear-cartilage removal and septal repositioning), alar cartilage binding, open approach; low 4-million-won range, plus 500,000 won if additional material is needed. The consultant said that after checking the previous clinic, other material may possibly be present. B—silicone removal through a closed approach, with only nasal-tip height adjustment possible; septal repositioning not possible; high 2-million-won range.
Like the review post described, the doctor felt calm, filled out a detailed chart, and personally gave me the impression that removal would definitely be done rather than focusing on aesthetics. After examining by palpation, they suggested removing and refining the silicone on the nasal bridge, removing the ear cartilage, and repositioning the septum. If the septum cannot be reused, the ear cartilage may be removed.
[Clinic C] (30,000-won consultation deposit): Silicone removal, nasal-tip adjustment (ear-cartilage removal and septal-length adjustment), alar cartilage binding, open approach, high 4-million-won range. I heard they had moved from Hongdae. The interior felt the most elaborate and typical of a plastic-surgery clinic. The waiting and consultation process took a long time, but although I had seen reviews saying it was intimidating, I did not get that impression. The doctor explained the nasal structure extensively and seemed meticulous. They said the angle should be fine after removing the silicone and ear cartilage and adjusting the septal height.
[Clinic D] (consultation fee 10,000 won): Silicone removal, nasal-tip adjustment (ear-cartilage removal and septal-length adjustment), alar cartilage spreading, closed approach, high 3-million-won range. The doctor and consultant were the kindest and best understood the areas I was dissatisfied with. Consultation and examination were done with ultrasound. They proposed removing the silicone and ear cartilage, adjusting the septal height, and spreading rather than re-binding the alar cartilage because I said I disliked a sharp nasal tip. They knew the previous clinic’s style well and said they perform many removals.
[Clinic E] (consultation fee 30,000 won): Complete removal of the silicone, septum, and ear cartilage through an open approach. Mid-4-million-won range if partial photos are disclosed. After a CT scan and consultation, the doctor said everything had to be removed and the septum could not be left. They did not recommend other materials. They thought the previous clinic had used donor rib cartilage on the septum, which had to be completely removed; on the CT, the septum looked thick and seemed possibly to have been reinforced with donor rib cartilage. The doctor carefully examined the CT and palpated the area, answered questions, and explained things clearly.
All four consultations were good. The answers were helpful, and none felt overly formal or overly sales-oriented. At first, because of my work schedule and concern about a columellar scar, I was looking only into a closed approach, but I decided to do it properly, so I also kept the open approach in consideration and eventually reserved one clinic. I ultimately chose the open approach. Since this is revision surgery, I do wonder whether I should have visited the other places I had reserved and then canceled, but I have to trust my choice. I will leave another post after surgery!
