Before surgery, I didn’t have fat around my eyes and my eyelids were on the thin side, but my left eye was smaller than my right and slightly thicker, so I had asymmetrical eyes. Most clinics said surgery would be fully possible with the non-incisional buried-suture method, and they said canthoplasty could make my eyes look too close-set, so I planned to only have them fixed with the buried-suture method and looked into a few places for surgery.
First surgery in 2008. I searched online for a few clinics close to my neighborhood, got consultations, and had surgery with the buried-suture method. In less than a year, my left eye loosened weakly.
In 2009, I went back to the clinic where I first had surgery, got a consultation, and they said they would redo it, so they fixed both eyes again with the buried-suture method. Thinking about it now, even I wonder why they had to fix the right eye too. After about 1 or 2 years, only the left eye loosened again. I was stressed and completely lost trust in the clinic.
Around 2012, I felt the first clinic wasn’t it anymore, gave up on it, and went to another clinic in the Gangnam area of Seoul for a consultation and proceeded with my third surgery. The doctor said the right eye had been fine, but since it had unnecessarily been done twice already, for this surgery we should just operate on the left eye and do a partial incision.
After that, neither eye loosened, and for nearly 10 years I lived being reasonably satisfied with both eyes. About 60% satisfied. The scar kept showing, so I didn’t really like it, but since my eyes had already gone through 3 surgeries, I didn’t want to touch them anymore.
Now, more than 10 years later, my right eye has weak strength holding the double eyelid, and it keeps forming two or three layers, as if it might loosen, so I’m thinking about revision surgery. For 10 years, I’ve lived with the partially incised part of my left eye looking obvious whenever I close my eyes, as if anyone could tell it had been surgically fixed. I thought it would settle down, but that was a vain hope. I don’t know whether it can turn out natural and unnoticeable again, so honestly I’m still wondering whether it’s right to have eye surgery for a 4th time.
