Ever since I was little, I had a very bulbous-nose look, and because my nostrils spread when I smiled, I was super self-conscious every time I took photos. I was too scared of major surgery like raising the bridge or touching the bone, and I also worried it would look too much, so I decided to just target the flared part and looked into OOO before getting surgery. I’m leaving this here in case there are others like me who are considering alar reduction because of a wide nose. On the day of surgery, it only felt a little sore when I got the local anesthetic injection, and the surgery itself finished faster than I expected. When I looked in the mirror afterward, the taping left me feeling dazed, but once I got home, the numb, tingly feeling gradually set in! For a few days right after surgery, when I laughed or chewed food hard, the area under my nose pulled together with my upper lip, so I couldn’t smile big and had to eat very carefully. A few days later, on the day I got my stitches removed, honestly I teared up a little when they were taken out. It wasn’t so much pain as I just hated that sharp, stinging sensation. But as soon as all the stitches were out and the tape came off, I looked in the mirror and could clearly see that the wide, flattened sides were no longer spreading out like before, so I felt completely relieved. At first I kept looking in the mirror because I was worried about incision scars or scar tissue, but time really does help. The redness gradually faded, and it just became a natural crease line where the nose folds. Haha. It gave me exactly the neat nose tip look I wanted, so I don’t regret choosing OOO and going through with it this time. Anyway, with alar reduction, if you reduce too much, it can make the nose look pinched or make breathing feel uncomfortable, so I hope you go to a place that carefully adjusts the amount of incision according to your skin thickness and nostril shape during the first consultation!
