1. Why I decided to have surgery When I closed my mouth, I had very pronounced chin wrinkles, and my mouth also looked protruded. At first, I thought the protrusion of my mouth was the problem, so I got an orthodontic consultation. But in my case, although there was some protrusion, it was not severe, so I was told that orthodontics would not improve it much and that surgery would be needed. I learned that my chin was retruded beyond the normal range, and I decided to have chin advancement. 2. Recovery process and changes 1) Pain Right after I woke up from surgery, my chin hurt a lot, but after I was given painkillers, it quickly got better. Even afterward, I took painkillers for several days, so the chin pain was not that severe. However, for about a week, when wearing the compression band, my chin was pressed and the incision inside my mouth hurt. 2) Swelling I had significant swelling for about two weeks, so I worried a lot when I looked in the mirror. My chin itself looked fine, but my overall image felt more stern, and I even wanted to go back to how I looked before surgery. But by the third week, I kept getting prettier, and around that time I met people and heard compliments like “You look like you lost weight” and “You look prettier.” One year later, there is no sign at all that I had surgery, and it looks very natural. All the swelling is gone, so my face looks slimmer too. Unless I tell people first that I had surgery, no one realizes it, and friends who know I had surgery said it turned out well. 3) Sensation After surgery, when I touched my lower jaw and lower lip, it felt like I had applied anesthetic cream. As of now, one year later, all sensation has returned. The hardest part for me after surgery was the sensation that my lower teeth were being squeezed. In my case, I felt that squeezing sensation throughout the time I was awake, and for 7 days after surgery it was so strong that I had trouble sleeping at night. I think this differs from person to person. In my case, I still feel a slight squeezing sensation in my lower teeth now, but compared with the beginning, it has improved a lot. 3. Satisfaction with the changes and my thoughts My chin wrinkle, which was my complex, has improved a lot, though not 100%, and I’m satisfied. In addition, as my chin came forward, the feeling that my mouth protruded has also decreased a lot, so I think my face, which looked a bit unsophisticated before, has become much prettier. With the chin coming forward, maybe there is also a lifting effect, because my facial flesh looks like it has slimmed down too. I didn’t want my chin to come forward too much, but the director reflected my needs well, so the result was satisfying. Also, my chin had been crooked to one side, and the director paid attention to making sure the twisted part would not become more noticeable after surgery, so it looks less crooked than before surgery. 4. A message for people considering surgery For people with a receding chin, chin advancement seems like it can improve things naturally and beautifully. I am also satisfied with the external changes. However, because it is bone surgery, you should fully consider that the recovery process may be somewhat long. Also, since side effects that someone else never had may remain for me, I think that part should be kept in mind. Overall, if your external complex is severe, I recommend this surgery.
