Not only the surgery result, but I also felt a lot of disappointment in the hospital’s response. During the consultation process and before and after the surgery, I asked many questions because I had things I wanted to know, but in many cases it was hard to get clear answers. Rather than explaining the questions in detail, it felt like they were being brushed aside, so it was difficult to have enough trust. In particular, the way the doctor and nurses responded did not meet the level I had expected. From a patient’s perspective, every surgery is a very important decision and the anxiety is also great, but at the hospital there were times when it felt like they were treating it as if it was not their job. Instead of empathizing with even small questions or explaining them sufficiently, there were cases where the response felt merely formal, which was disappointing. More than anything, I was most disappointed by how casually they talked about revision surgery. For a patient, revision surgery is a big decision that means bearing not only the cost but also the time, recovery process, and mental stress. Yet seeing them talk about it as if it were just solving a simple problem made me wonder whether they were really considering the patient’s position enough. Of course, not every patient has the same experience, but from what I felt, I think the consultation process and post-op response are just as important as surgical skill. I felt that it is necessary to answer the patient’s questions sincerely, understand their anxiety, and explain important matters such as revision surgery much more carefully.
