1-year review after jaw asymmetry surgery - a surgery chosen after much deliberation, and I'm glad I did it

The reason I decided to have surgery was simple. At first, I had no thoughts about surgery at all, but I went to the hospital because of persistent jaw discomfort and pain, and after the tests I found out that the asymmetry was more severe than I had expected. After being told that correction alone had its limits, I decided on surgery after a lot of deliberation. The reason I chose oral and maxillofacial surgery was largely due to a recommendation from someone close to me. After actually going for a consultation, I gained trust because the medical staff were very professional and explained everything thoroughly. I also received enough guidance about the surgical process and recovery process, so I could proceed with peace of mind. Right after surgery there was significant swelling and bruising, but by the first week the swelling gradually started to go down. By the second week, the major swelling had gone down a lot, but the bruising lasted a long time, so I felt somewhat frustrated. Through the third week, bruising remained around the chin tip, and the swelling had still not completely gone down, so every time I looked in the mirror I could feel the recovery process. By one month, I could feel a slight difference in swelling between the left and right sides, especially one side going down faster. By two months, daily life was mostly possible, but eating hard foods, especially meat, was uncomfortable, so meals were somewhat restricted. Still, the swelling had visibly decreased, and externally I looked much more natural. As time passed, recovery gradually became more stable, and by six months I no longer had much discomfort eating. However, starting around seven months I had a clicking sound from my jaw, which made me a little worried, but there was no pain or functional problem. By nine months the sound had not completely disappeared, but I gradually got used to it, and my facial line continued to settle in naturally. At one year, I am very satisfied overall. The symmetry on both sides is good, the swelling has almost completely gone, and a natural face shape has been achieved. The jaw joint pain I felt before surgery did not disappear completely, but it has clearly been greatly relieved, and it does not interfere with daily life at all. The occasional sound is also not something that bothers me much. Also, by the one-year mark I had the screws removed, so the overall surgical process was completed. I am currently in the recovery phase, and I can feel that things are becoming more stable and better as time passes. At first I was very afraid and worried about surgery, but in the end both the functional and aesthetic aspects improved, so I am very satisfied. For anyone considering it, I would say that if you make the decision after sufficient consultation and careful judgment, you can get a positive result.
