Day of surgery Right after the surgery ended and I came out, the swelling wasn’t that big. I had drains in, but my throat hurt like it was being torn apart and I couldn’t close my mouth. For 4 hours right after surgery, they had to let the sleep anesthesia wear off, so they wouldn’t let me sleep or drink water, and it was so, so hard. They told me to take deep breaths, and my eyes kept closing against my will, so I thought I was going crazy. I saw the director after surgery, and I was worried because one side was especially swollen. The director looked and said swelling can naturally differ a bit on each side, so let’s watch the progress. After 4 hours, they let me drink water. From 2 a.m. until I saw the director in the morning, I had to fast again, so they said I couldn’t drink water, so I drank water from the container used for taking liquid medicine. Since my mouth wouldn’t close, my throat kept getting extremely dry, and maybe because of the throat injury from tracheal intubation, the pain felt like my throat was being torn, so it was really hard. I kept drooling and barely slept. Even if I slept, I woke up every hour… I asked the nurse and worked hard with ice packs starting from the day of surgery. Day 1 I saw the director, had the sideburn stitches disinfected, and had the drains removed. I was really scared it would hurt, but I didn’t really feel anything when the drains were removed. More than the pain from the incision inside my mouth, the throat pain was so severe.. About 10 times the pain of when I first got COVID… Even after being discharged and coming home, I couldn’t sleep and kept spitting out phlegmy saliva and coughing, and I used up two rolls of toilet paper. Even when sleeping, I always held tissues, and I didn’t even have the strength to hold my phone, so I think I kept my eyes closed all day. I kept waking up often at dawn and using ice packs. Day 2 My face started swelling like crazy. From the day of surgery, the inside of my mouth was so swollen that I couldn’t close my mouth, and then my face swelled too, so breathing was extremely hard and it was so, so painful. They told me to put something supporting the square jaw area and wear the compression band, but when I did that, I produced so much phlegm, coughed badly, and breathing became so hard… so sometimes I removed the support and just wore the compression band. That made me feel at least a little more alive. Other people said they swell a lot from day 3-4, so I thought this level of swelling must be the maximum for me.. Day 3 What the… I was even more swollen than yesterday. I really swelled like crazy. But the fortunate thing was that the swelling became symmetrical..? Of course breathing was hard, and my throat still felt like it was being torn apart. I was swollen to the point that I couldn’t open my eyes, and my lips swelled twice as much too, so saliva kept dripping. But I think part of it is that I’m originally the type who swells easily. It felt like I was 1.5 times more swollen than an average person, so it was hard I went to the hospital for swelling care and had my condition checked by the director, and the director and nurses said I seem to be the type who swells easily and told me to walk a lot. Oh, and.. I got scolded that even if breathing is hard, I need to use the support properly. They said if I don’t, I might need revision surgery.. After hearing that, I got scared and worked hard at it from then on When I do this, it feels like it presses on the salivary glands? so the throat phlegm gets really bad and I wake up more often, but I really, really don’t want revision surgery, so I worked hard. Day 4 Yellow bruising came down under my eyes. One eye has a big blood bruise, and a blood vessel burst inside the eyeball, so it looks unpleasant But the swelling inside my mouth is much better than before, so swallowing things has become somewhat okay, and the throat pain has calmed down a little. I think the swelling is also a bit better than day 3, and starting today it’s the day for warm compresses, so I did my eyes too, and my eyes opened a bit haha Until day 3, it was so, so hard that I really wondered why I did this.. but now it’s a bit bearable, and instead of phlegmy saliva, a lot of clear saliva comes out. I’ll write again from day 5 onward too. I’m just at home every day, so I got bored and wrote this. I watched a lot of YouTubers’ facial contouring surgery vlogs, but maybe because my swelling is worse, it definitely feels different from the feeling of facial contouring surgery I got when watching videos.
