From the front, my cheekbones were way too assertive to the side.. But I also had a square jaw attached to that (shhyal!) so my lower face looked very broad and stubborn. In my early 20s I thought it was just baby fat... I figured it would show a bit more after military service and losing weight, but no matter how much weight I lost, those stubborn bone bumps stayed the same... haha. In fact, once I lost weight, the hollows under my cheekbones got worse and I even started to look skeletal; ever since I turned 20, I periodically got treatments like jaw Botox and contouring injections at a famous dermatology clinic. But for someone like me, whose bones themselves were large, there was absolutely no dramatic effect. In photos taken by others or in group photos, I was the only one with a disastrous face shape, so I ended up using retouching apps to shove in my cheekbones and shave my jaw until my fingers nearly gave out. Being a guy and constantly checking photo before-and-after differences while editing made me feel like crap, and my self-esteem kept dropping, lol.. Rather than living like this forever and turning thirty while still doing this, I decided to get serious and have the bones fixed properly while I was still young, so I booked the surgery. It's been a few months since the operation now! Honestly, I'm so used to it that I barely even remember what my hopeless face looked like before surgery, and it feels natural lol. Friends and people I hadn't seen in a while just say I lost a ton of weight and that my face looks like it's about to disappear lol. It's not that kind of doll-like carved look that makes it obvious I had surgery; instead, I became masculine and clean-looking with a slimmer line, so nobody even suspects I had surgery. To be honest, I was scared about having bone surgery as a man, and I also worried a lot about side effects, so I seriously shopped around hospital after hospital. But the director at the hospital I went to was apparently already very famous for contouring surgery. From the consultation onward, he analyzed my facial bone structure and had this amazing presence, adjusting only what was necessary so I wouldn't end up with an awkward jaw while preserving a masculine facial line.. Seeing the results, I now painfully understand why he is so well known. For major surgeries like contouring, you absolutely have to look at the director's experience and reputation, lol. And you know contouring is 80 percent aftercare, right? What I really liked about this hospital was how carefully they handled the aftercare. They took care of everything in detail by stage, like swelling lasers and care, so I think I recovered much faster than other people~~!! Every time I went in for treatment, I could see the swelling in my face dropping quickly, which was reassuring and nice, lol. These days, taking photos is genuinely fun lol. Before, I needed camera filters or retouching apps, but now even if I just shoot with the default camera, my face line is smooth, so I feel happy every time I look in the mirror. Having confidence in my appearance made me much more assertive in relationships with others, and overall my self-esteem feels way higher. I keep thinking I should have done it sooner and stop wasting time worrying like that lol. Before, to hide my face shape, I would only insist on hairstyles that flattened the sides with a two-block cut and heavy bangs, but now I can do a leaf cut or an Ivy League cut and wear my forehead fully exposed because my face shape supports it, and I'm so, so happy~ After all, for men, the lower face is everything.
