Because of my receded chin, I never felt confident about my side profile throughout my school years. I often found myself naturally lowering my head when taking photos, or covering my mouth out of habit while eating. At first I thought it was just a complex, but as time went on the stress grew, and at some point I became so tired of feeling self-conscious about my appearance that I finally decided to get chin advancement surgery. When choosing a hospital, I looked at reviews the most. There were a lot of reviews for Yang Yundol Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and I was also interested because many of the surgeon’s cases showed dramatic changes. After visiting in person for a consultation, they explained my condition clearly and pointed out in an easy-to-understand way how it could improve, which made me trust them. After the consultation, I decided on surgery right away, to the point that I felt embarrassed about how long I had been worrying about it. On the day of surgery, thanks to anesthesia, there was almost no pain, but the part I remember as the most painful was the process of continuously applying pressure to the surgical area to stop the bleeding after surgery. On days 3 to 5, the swelling kept getting worse and I was startled every time I looked in the mirror, but after that it began to go down little by little, and around a month and a half later the major swelling was clearly reduced. By the time I reached the 3-month mark, it had become much more natural overall, and I felt it was close to the side profile I wanted. The swelling care service provided by the hospital was also a big help. Beyond actually managing the swelling, the psychological reassurance of hearing that I was recovering well was bigger than I expected, so I felt pretty supported throughout the recovery period. Before surgery, because of my receded chin, I had a generally youthful look and heard the word "cute" a lot. After surgery, I heard many people say my overall vibe became much more mature. And just by changing the chin tip, my face line looked slimmer overall and I got more of a V-line feel, so I never expected to hear people say my chin looked pretty. Personally, the most satisfying thing is that I gained confidence in my side profile. In the past I avoided having side-profile photos taken, but now I naturally take them without thinking, and when I eat I no longer cover my mouth for no reason, which makes me think, "I should have done this sooner" so many times. Of course, the financial burden of surgery was real, and waiting for the swelling to go down was not easy either. But even after taking all of that into account, the satisfaction with the result is huge. If I could go back to the past, I would choose surgery again, and honestly I think I would have done it even earlier. Now, when I look at my side profile, I feel much more satisfaction than stress, and the biggest change is that I act with confidence myself. For anyone who is still 고민해, seriously, keeping on hesitating only delays the change.
