Day 1 rhinoplasty review, written so I can remember it. For the surgery, I managed my condition really hard starting 2 weeks before the operation. No supplements, no spicy food, no caffeine (I don’t drink alcohol or smoke anyway, so I only had to be careful with caffeine), and I slept as regularly as possible for those 2 weeks. Right before surgery I also got my teeth scaled, cleaned the whole house, prepared everything I’d need for aftercare, and even did a full scrub before going in. I had already gone for a consultation once before surgery, so the design consultation was quick. But here the surgeon forgot that I had asked to have the dorsal hump shaved down. Thinking about it, I guess that’s natural...? Since there are so many people getting consultations, it seems like the surgeon often doesn’t remember details. So before surgery, I think it’s important to clearly communicate exactly what you want while doing the design. I was worried that just speaking wouldn’t convey my wishes well, so I wrote down the requirements I wanted and printed out two reference images of my expected nose surgery result to hand over. Still, I do feel a little uneasy, like the surgery somehow ended up being done a bit halfheartedly.. I should have spoken more firmly and in more detail about the design I wanted. The surgery... I arrived at the hospital by 12:00, it started around 1:30, and ended around 3:30. What was funny was that the moment the surgery ended, my eyes suddenly flew open as if I had just woken up from sleep. I talked about something or other, probably saying it went well and thanking them. I didn’t use any costal cartilage and didn’t use any ear cartilage either, so I had no body pain at all. Of course the tip of my nose throbbed a little, but it was manageable. Oh! And since I didn’t have any packing, I kept wondering if I had really had nose surgery.. There’s a saying about panic because of packing, and that packing makes everyone want to die, so not having it was really nice. And because there was no silicone, no osteotomy, and the surgery was only done by cartilage repositioning, I had zero swelling. Even though my mind was clear right after surgery, I still thought I should lie down for an hour, so I stayed in the recovery room for an hour and then got discharged. I wondered if I might even be able to take the subway in this condition.. but my body was still a bit unsteady, so I took a taxi. I think after surgery you definitely need to rest. There was no swelling, no pain, and no packing, so it just felt like I came home with gauze taped to my nose. There was some bleeding too, but only a drop or two. Still, I had to change the gauze every 2-3 hours, so I changed the gauze, rinsed my body lightly with water except for my head, and used a sponge to wet-wipe my face, then put on toner, which felt refreshing. When I got home and removed the gauze to check the nose line, it actually looked pretty good. But the philtrum... I couldn’t help looking like a long-nosed monkey T_T The philtrum getting longer is the fate of rhinoplasty.. I decided to accept the fate of the long-nosed monkey for one or two months. My nostrils also became more vertical, but at first I thought it was overcorrection, so for now I just need to rest well..
