Something I only recently learned was that if there is a big difference in how hard you have to use your eye-opening muscles, it can also cause migraines..? I had already been stressed about my asymmetrical eyes, but I just thought it was a cosmetic issue. But at some point I started getting headaches too often, so I went to several hospitals and could not find a clear cause
Then I went to an anesthesiology and pain medicine clinic, and they said that when the effort needed to open each eye is different, some people get headaches because they keep using the muscles around the forehead and eyes unevenly. After hearing that, it did make some sense.. When I looked at photos, I really did have the feeling that I was forcing one eye open more than the other
So while I was at it, I looked into correcting my asymmetrical eyes, but honestly, I think I felt a bit burned out while going around for consultations. I did not want some dramatic change, I just wanted the asymmetry to stand out less, but there were more places than I expected recommending canthoplasty or suggesting raising the crease a lot;;
Then I went for a consultation at a clinic that had decent reviews, and there they actually did not give off an excessive vibe. The director also said my eyes themselves were not bad and suggested non-incisional ptosis correction plus just slightly refining the crease, so I felt relieved about that part. There was nothing like pushing me into something excessive
I had the surgery pretty much right away, and the swelling was not as bad as I expected, but for a few days my eyes felt heavy and sore. The crease also felt a little too noticeable at first, but over time it became more natural
And the headache I was most curious about... it is not completely gone, but it is definitely less severe than before. Before, it felt like I was straining my eyes all day long, but now it feels a bit more comfortable? Still, I do not think eye surgery can absolutely solve headaches!! I think my case just happened to fit because I had fairly strong asymmetry in both my eyes and the effort used to open them..! Of course, going around researching hospitals was really exhausting, but I am glad I was able to get rid of one source of stress...
