I had consultations for my eyes and nose. The director speaks in a very gentle, quiet voice and explains things slowly and carefully.
You can get a CT scan. (CT scan fee: 10,000 won) After the CT scan, they explained things while looking at the photos. They said I have a slight deviated septum and also rhinitis. For the bridge, because I have a slight hump, they said to shave it down a little and then insert an implant (silicone or mesh). (No need for osteotomy) Because my nose is overall small and short, they said to raise the bridge, raise the tip to match the bridge, and lengthen the nose.
Personally, I was very reluctant about silicone, so I asked whether the bridge could be done with my own tissue.
For the bridge, autologous dermis or costal cartilage is possible, but they said autologous dermis is harvested from the buttock, is natural, but more than 50 percent is absorbed, and that it is hard to get a sharp-looking nose. If costal cartilage is used, a chest scar will remain, of course, and for the bridge they carve the costal cartilage into an implant-like shape, like silicone. They also said there is a method of mincing it finely, but they do not seem to recommend that very much. And if costal cartilage is used, they said there is no need for other materials such as septal cartilage or ear cartilage.
For the eyes, when I said I wanted both double eyelids and canthoplasty, they only recommended buried sutures. They said outer canthoplasty is possible, but it would not make a huge change, only about 1 mm in a more 'natural' way, so they did not really recommend it, and they said inner canthoplasty would not be necessary if the bridge is raised.
The AS period is 2 years, and the costs were Nose base 300, real expense 400 (250 reimbursed) Costal cartilage base 700, real expense 800 (250 reimbursed) Eyes 100.
It was definitely attractive that the director is an ENT specialist, so real-expense reimbursement is possible, but for a first surgery they kept saying not to use costal cartilage even if I wanted it, yet the overall atmosphere was that they recommended it, which made me feel a little uneasy. Oh, and the consultation manager spoke to me informally the first time we met, which I did not like.
