Before <before surgery> Before <before surgery> <6 months> <3 months (these are the only photos I have)> Before surgery - I had always been unhappy with my protruding cheekbones and had been thinking about it, and then an opportunity came up, so I started looking into surgery. It was not something I was seriously agonizing over; I was just wondering if it could improve a little, so I visited several hospitals for consultations. Around the beginning of this year, I visited about 5-6 places.
Surgery consultation - During the consultations, I thought about the purpose of the surgery. I thought about whether reducing the cheekbones would necessarily make things better, and which aspects would be more aesthetically improved.
Actually, I came to realize that cheekbones and a square jaw have their own kind of charm. Around that time, Sae-byeok from Squid Game, Jung Ho-yeon, looked so attractive despite having cheekbones and a square jaw, so I also wondered whether having surgery would really be the right direction.
Deciding on surgery - Then I saw a YouTube video uploaded by Director Park Jong-rim. It was about how beauty is subjective, but there are also objective aspects to it. The point was that designing a face to be objectively more beautiful is what plastic surgeons do, and that is why surgery may be needed.
I agreed with that, and after that I decided to have surgery. To be honest, since I had lived with my current face for over 30 years, I also thought that living the remaining 40 or 50 years with a different face would not really leave me with much regret, so the decision was not difficult.
Reason I chose the hospital - I think I visited at least 5 places, and among all the hospital consultations, this one felt the most trustworthy.
From the consultant to the director, they were kind, just as I had seen on YouTube, and they consulted from the patient’s perspective. In particular, everything was discussed from the patient’s point of view, such as suggesting that to avoid unnecessary surgery, I could “get Botox for the square jaw and only do cheekbone reduction first,” then think about it and later consider square jaw surgery again, or that chin-tip surgery might be unnecessary from a design standpoint and therefore not done.
I also saw on YouTube that the director had been a professor at a university hospital and then opened his own clinic because he wanted to pursue “aesthetic plastic surgery.” And when I heard that the director’s father was also the first in Korea to introduce cheekbone reduction as an aesthetic plastic surgery procedure, I did not have much hesitation in choosing.
After surgery - To be honest, even if I had not been very satisfied with the surgery, I thought that since I had lived with my original face for 32 years, living the rest of my life with a different face would not be such a bad thing.
But after having the surgery, I found that I am much more satisfied with it than I expected. Some people ask why I did it, and some say there is not much difference, but when I look in the mirror, my face looks rounder and softer, so I like it.
Personally, it was simply a surgery with a very high level of satisfaction. Since there are so many handsome and beautiful people, I worry that my review might somehow be harmful to the hospital. If someone with a better original facial structure had done it, the result probably would have been much better. I always live with gratitude toward both the consultant and the director. I hope they continue to heal people’s hearts through good surgery. Happy New Year everyone, and I hope you all achieve everything you wish for this year.
