After contouring and forehead reduction, my midface looked long, so I had a medial philtrum reduction. I decided on this place after doing a lot of online research on XTalk, Naver Cafe, and elsewhere. Honestly, I was not very worried about scars (because my skin is very thin and I go to the dermatologist every week). What I was most worried about was nostril distortion.
After the surgery, my nostrils were spread open like an orangutan's. After the stitches were removed, the swelling went down quickly, but I felt like the nostrils were still slightly, subtly widened, so I had revision alar reduction surgery.
Come to think of it, after the philtrum reduction, my upper lip lifted a little, so my lips looked fuller!! The doctor said that while performing the surgery, they also helped preserve the philtral groove (the C-line). So I think the added volume in the philtrum may have made my nostrils feel wider.
The post-op photos are photos taken after the revision alar reduction surgery.
For the month between the philtrum reduction and the revision alar reduction surgery, I was depressed. It was depression itself. Now I am very satisfied (overall facial volume, a younger-looking impression). My lips are fuller too, and my whole vibe has changed a lot.
I did not consult at other hospitals, so I do not know, but the doctor has a strong pride in their surgery. That also made me feel reassured that they would make it look good.
The consultation director, front desk staff, and nurses were all reasonably kind. (One of the front desk staff was especially kind!!)
I do not regret having the philtrum reduction surgery. Honestly, I am really satisfied!!! The doctor was already well known for the lip and philtrum area since the old ㅇㅇㅊㅂ days,
However, if you have thick skin tissue or are worried about nostril distortion, I recommend thinking carefully before deciding on philtrum reduction.
