My nose surgery wasn’t started solely for cosmetic reasons. Of course I wanted to change the shape of my bridge and tip, but rhinitis and nasal congestion had been a very long-standing problem. Having one side blocked while sleeping was almost an everyday occurrence, and when I wasn’t feeling well or during seasonal changes, I would just breathe through my mouth... It was truly miserable.... As a university student, it was the worst when rhinitis flared up while staying up all night or dealing with a pile of assignments T_T Since I was going to have nose surgery anyway, I decided to address the functional aspects at the same time and chose ID Plastic Surgery, where collaboration with an ENT department was available. For the cosmetic part, Director Jung Young-hoon used silicone for the bridge and donor rib cartilage for the tip, and performed correction for a short nose, osteotomy, a deviated nose, and a bulbous nose. For the functional part, I had surgery for a deviated septum and inferior turbinates together with the ENT director. Before surgery, my nose was short, blunt, and slightly crooked, so I wondered why there was so much to do to one nose lol. I showed them a line that was neither too natural nor too glamorous, but a refined natural style. What surprised me in the result was my bulbous nose. I thought the appearance of wide nostrils also contributed to it, so I wondered whether I needed alar reduction, but I didn’t have it separately. Once the tip became slender and the overall width was refined, it no longer looked blunt like before even without touching the nostrils. My bridge didn’t simply become higher; the axis that had looked crooked was corrected, making my nose look properly positioned in the center of my face. The previously short tip also descended appropriately, so from the side the refined natural line I wanted is more visible. At first, perhaps because of swelling inside the nose, breathing actually felt more difficult, so I wondered, “Why is it still blocked when I had functional nose surgery?” lol. Once the swelling subsided, I could feel the difference. I no longer have one side completely blocked like before and breathe with my mouth open less often; sleeping is also more comfortable. Since it was a problem I had lived with every day, the difference in quality of life is surprisingly significant... If I had started surgery only because of the nose’s appearance, I probably would have kept postponing the functional part. In the end, I gained a refined natural nose and addressed my breathing discomfort at the same time, so this nose surgery seems to have created more noticeable changes in how I feel than in how I look.
