This was the third in a series of nose surgeries, and I had a revision at this hospital using costal cartilage. Since the previous surgery had also been done with autologous costal cartilage, my nose was probably already quite damaged, but I still had another revision here using costal cartilage. My original nose was very crooked and I could not breathe well through one nostril, but after surgery at O&Y it did not really improve much. The crooked nose was somewhat corrected, though. But the costal cartilage itself was so hard, my nose did not move at all, and if it got bumped anywhere it felt like it would break. Living with this nose was truly miserable. In the end, after 2 years, I had everything removed at another hospital and underwent a fourth revision using autologous dermis and ear cartilage. It has now been about 8 years since that revision, and I can breathe well, I can do the pig-nose motion well, and I am so happy these days. Anyway, forget everything else, do not use costal cartilage in the nose, ever. You will definitely end up needing another revision.
