Eye Surgery Reviews@eye-review

A failed surgery review from a famous double-eyelid surgery hospital (non-incisional natural adhesion, epicanthoplasty, upper epicanthoplasty)

All of these photos were taken after surgery. I’m posting an honest review 3 years after surgery with the head director. Cost: 1.8 million KRW (2019.9.12) Around 7 months after non-incisional natural adhesion, an overlapping crease formed and the double-eyelid line became two layers. The line created with the epicanthoplasty and upper epicanthoplasty went outside my eye line and became curved. Also, the stitches were not removed, so I had to pay separately and go to a dermatology clinic, where they removed the remaining stitches from both eyes while I was bleeding. Even the dermatology clinic said it could have been a big problem if they had fully adhered to the skin. The hospital did not mention any postoperative care or apologize, and only kept repeating that they couldn’t see them because of swelling. After that, I felt disappointed and dissatisfied with this hospital. But at the time, the director seemed kind, so I held back and didn’t write a negative review. (2021.1.14) I called the hospital and then visited, and they told me to pay an additional 300,000 KRW for revision surgery. I was angry that after paying 1.8 million KRW for surgery, my eyes didn’t even last 7 months and I had to pay again, so I said I would post an honest review about the aftercare and my current eye condition. The hospital said that if I posted something negative, legal issues could arise, and that they would discuss it with the director. They said that if it would not take too long, they could proceed without an additional fee. I trusted them and tried to go ahead with revision surgery, but I postponed it because, due to my work contract period and annual leave, I couldn’t selfishly take a long leave. (2023.1.3) I even quit my job for eye revision surgery, contacted them, and visited. My eyes became uneven 7 months after double-eyelid surgery, but they said that because it was late, I would need to pay an additional 1.2 million KRW if proceeding with an incisional method. They were basically telling me to spend a total of 3 million KRW for double-eyelid surgery. I was upset that I had spent 1.8 million KRW and it only lasted 7 months, so I told them I wouldn’t do it and left.

Compared with the event prices at other hospitals, the cost is twice as high, and they also do not properly care about postoperative management. I heard even bone-contouring facial surgery can be done for 3 million KRW, so it feels unfair to waste money on eyes that lasted only 7 months. Because I was a new employee, I couldn’t selfishly take a long annual leave, and after my eyes became uneven again, I endured being teased about my eyes for more than 2 years. During the surgery consultation and even right before surgery, I mentioned several times to the director that the fat and skin around my eyes were drooping, so wouldn’t an incisional method be better? But they said that even with non-incisional natural adhesion, the overlapping crease would disappear, and I trusted the words that I could just believe in them and have the surgery. As a result, my eyes returned to their original state in just 7 months. The director said that since I was the one who couldn’t freely use my annual leave, I should sue my company instead. I hope other people choose carefully too, so they don’t end up having to repeat eye surgery like I did.
