Day 1
No food at all for 8 hours before surgery, even gum or water I went to the hospital, organized my things in the room where I’d be admitted, brushed my teeth and gargled (they said I couldn’t drink water, so I hadn’t brushed before going)
Right up until surgery, I was messaging my friends on KakaoTalk like, “I’m excited, I’ll be back” and acting like that lol I handed in my phone in front of the operating room and lay down on the operating table
They said they were checking the doctor, but weren’t they supposed to confirm it with me? As soon as I thought that, I woke up and the surgery was already over
My throat was so freaking dry and I was tired, but they kept telling me not to sleep, had the bed raised, and wouldn’t let me drink water. They said I could drink water after 6 hours. Apparently I had to keep breathing out like I was sighing so the anesthetic gas would leave my body? This was the most painful part. For 6 hours I was exhausted but couldn’t sleep, my throat was seriously scratchy and painful like a desert, but I couldn’t drink water.. Thankfully I didn’t feel nauseous, but my throat really felt like a desert and the thirst was so hard. I’d close my eyes and kick the blanket like crazy, then think maybe 10 minutes had passed, but when I looked, exactly 2 minutes had gone by each time
I couldn’t use my phone, so I just kept kicking the bed with my feet and twisting my whole body around, and every chance I got I called the nurse and begged her to let me drink just one sip of water. Sorry.. I think I heard her say, “Again?” but she was still kind.. She gave me extra gauze for under my nose and let me take a fresh pack of tissues too..
Listening to the woman and man next to me talking helped with the boredom a little. I was seriously so bored, but it was hard to look at my phone, and it wasn’t exactly “painful.” “Agonizing” was the right word for that day
