I had sunken eyes, depressed scars, and sausage-like double eyelids (and even the space between my eyes and eyebrows was narrow). People around me kept telling me not to do it, saying the thick look was charming. So at first I thought maybe they were right, but I still kept feeling stressed… When several people I met for the first time asked me if it had been less than a year since my double eyelid surgery, I thought, “Ah… I really should get it done,” and did 2 months of online research + visited 11 places in person (including repeat consultations).
After a lot of thought, I had it done at the place I had originally been drawn to. One of the reasons I was drawn to it was the detailed explanation of the surgical method and the method itself. This was the only place that said they would perform double-line dissection and then excision. I absolutely hated the idea of lagophthalmos, but because of the scars I thought excision might be better, so on the day of surgery they said we would proceed with double-line dissection first, and if there was enough excess tissue, then excise it. Out of the 11 places, 3 recommended excision and the rest recommended double-line dissection, that’s how little excess tissue I had xxx ,, Also, before surgery, my line was actually less than 10 mm, but it was a line that didn’t suit my eyes + the fixation was deep, so it looked even more sausage-like. So we decided to lower it by about half and make the fixation weaker than before (because my eyes tend to come undone easily, they said if they made the fixation weak just to make it look natural, it would come undone right away).
Day of surgery: On the day of surgery, there was really almost no swelling. I had a swelling laser treatment 1 hour before surgery and got a swelling injection too, maybe because of that or something,,, it was fascinating.
Day 7: When I went to get the stitches removed, the director smiled with satisfaction and said the line came out well. But from around then, I could faintly see a double creaseㅠ…?
Day 16 today: I was originally supposed to go for a follow-up at the 1-month mark, but I have to go abroad, so I went earlier today. You can see it in the photo too, but one depressed scar remains, right? They said this scar had been very large, and they removed adhesions and did some excision to get rid of it. They explained that the reason this much was left is that if they removed all of the scar, the double eyelid line would become higher and lagophthalmos would inevitably occur, so there was no choice (after the surgery, they had also explained that it was unfortunate this sunken scar remained). And the faint double crease. They said it doesn’t interfere with the line, and that we’ll know as the swelling goes down, but if after at least 3 to 6 months that subtle part still bothers me, they said they would try to improve it as much as possible and brought up aftercare revision. They told me to make sure to come for a follow-up in mid-August so they can check it.
After the consultation with the director ended, the consultant told me scar tissue can become worse from 3 months onward and can become bumpy and hard, causing what people call a wavy line, but that it improves with time, so not to worry even if it happens. I guess I have to trust them. They said right now the major swelling is just going down, so we need to wait and see because we’ll only know once more swelling subsides. They said if it keeps bothering me, they’ll do aftercare revision and try to remove the double crease or depressed scar, so I did think it was a relief that they seemed responsible… but please, I really hope that doesn’t have to happen ㅠㅠ But if you ask whether I’d turn back time and do it again, yes, I would.!!!!!! The swelling is going down unevenly, but my eyes definitely look clearer + bigger, and when I open my eyes, should I say there’s no sense of pressure..? It’s comfortable! Also, people around me + even when I look at it, it already looks natural
