It’s already been 4 years, but to start with the conclusion: my skin hasn’t pitted again and there have been no side effects. I don’t really remember the procedure cost, but I think it was probably in the low-to-mid 2 million won range.
I wanted to compare with photos, but my skin was so badly pitted back then that I never took selfies, so I can’t show them. Anyway, I had 5 treatment sessions. For session 1-1, I received the skin needling treatment to create small wounds and promote healing, and for session 1-2, there was a roller with needles on it, and they kept rolling it over the skin and calming it down. That counts as one treatment session.
I had 5 sessions like that, and to cut to the conclusion, my acne scars improved a lot. But my skin didn’t change dramatically. It did come up, but you could still tell it had been indented. Still, there were no side effects, so it wasn’t bad overall. If I had to list the pros and cons, they’d be like this:
Pros It does work. (It gradually lifts.) There are no side effects.
Cons It’s expensive compared with other procedures. It hurts and takes a long time. (This depends on how many scars you have on your skin.) In the week when you get the skin-needling treatment, you have to wear regenerative tape and because of the scabs, it’s hard to go out. During recovery, you can’t drink alcohol, smoke, or eat fatty meat, etc. (You basically have to live like a vegan.)
The pros and cons are as above. As for an additional tip, after the procedure your skin gets red. You should get the treatment after all of that redness has gone, because the effect will be greater. But at the time, I was preparing to return to college, so I rushed to finish all the treatments before going back and ended up getting them at one-week intervals, which is why I got less benefit. So if you’re going to get it, do it after all the redness is gone.
Why I recommend it It doesn’t have dramatic results and it’s expensive, but you don’t have to worry about side effects. And it does work, right? Even now, when I put on sunscreen, the scars are covered to some extent because they’ve lifted. So if I went back, I think I’d do it again. Of course, it’s expensive, painful, and the recovery period is long, so I don’t plan to do it now. But if I had to choose just one scar treatment, I’d pick skin needling. Usually Hㅇ and Lㄷ are the most famous, but I had mine done at Hㅇ.
