Before-before-after<week 2>after<week 2>after<week 2>after<week 3>I’m the writer who went in for a paranasal implant and came out with a chin implant It’s been about 3 weeks now I thought some people might be curious, so I’m leaving a progress review!!
<Foreign-body sensation> For about 1 week after surgery, when I lay on my side or lowered my head to wash my hair, I felt a slight foreign-body sensation? in my chin. Should I call this a foreign-body sensation.. it was more like a slight pulling/leaning sensation!
Now I have zero foreign-body sensation, and no pulling/leaning sensation either
<Texture> When I touch my chin, it feels firm, like touching a surgically enhanced nose lololol Since the implant goes into the anterior chin, the front of the chin feels like touching a firm nasal tip But for the lower jaw, I can feel all my own jawbone, so there’s nothing like that there
<Pain> The pain was all gone by week 2 Now I can pat on lotion just fine Still, if I pull hard or anything, it feels uncomfortable, so I’m being careful around the chin area
<Implant> I used Gore-Tex for the implant Before choosing the hospital, because silicone is easier to remove, I really debated a lot between silicone and Gore-Tex and studied a lot too But the reason I chose Gore-Tex anyway was the foreign-body sensation!
I think plastic surgery should be comfortable enough that I can live forgetting that I had surgery?? Even though I’ve had major surgeries like double jaw surgery and breast surgery, the reason I keep only thinking about rhinoplasty and can’t readily go through with it is because of that. With the nose, you have to keep being careful and managing it
Anyway, both paranasal implants and chin implants are around the mouth, which moves a lot, and if the implant moves, you feel it moving, so many people feel that as a foreign-body sensation and get it removed because it’s uncomfortable.
If the implant is firmly fixed when inserted, there probably won’t be movement But I didn’t want screw fixation to the bone. They say that if the pocket where the implant goes is dissected accurately and the implant is inserted, movement can be minimized But I think that would vary a lot depending on surgical technique, and honestly I wondered whether it’s really possible to dissect it as if it fits perfectly.. lololol suspicious mind..
So I chose Gore-Tex, which is said to adhere to the tissue They said Gore-Tex has an uneven surface, so tissue fills into those uneven areas and it becomes fixed.
During the consultation, of course I asked about removal too. In case it would be difficult if I ever had to remove it. They said silicone has a smooth surface, so it can be taken out right away, whereas Gore-Tex adheres to the tissue, so the implant and tissue need to be dissected again to separate them, meaning it does take more work than silicone, but it’s not an extremely difficult surgery like the scary stories circulating out there!? It seems like it’s just more work than silicone. (I’m not a doctor, so for this part I can only trust the doctor,,)
<Possible postoperative effects> There are possible effects after chin implant surgery that I heard about during the consultation.
- Lip rolling inward - Asymmetry - Chin becoming longer & more pointed
*First, lip rolling inward. They said that as the chin comes forward, the lower lip can roll inward In conclusion, I do have some lip rolling inward. Once the swelling went down, my lower lip rolled slightly inward But it’s only to a degree that I notice. They informed me about this in advance, and I said I was okay with it haha It’s something that can be addressed with filler, so I didn’t worry much about it
*All our faces are asymmetrical, right They said for people with small chins, asymmetry is relatively not emphasized, but if you put an implant in the chin, asymmetry becomes more noticeable. (Because you can’t put the implant somewhere off-center from the middle of the chin) They also informed me about this in advance, and I was a bit worried But in conclusion, I didn’t have any noticeable asymmetry.
*The thing I worried about most was my chin getting longer & pointier lololol My face is narrow and on the long side, so I was really worried it might look even longer after the implant. And I was scared only my chin would get pointy like a Chinese TikToker, so I kept grabbing the consultant and asking lololol I asked the director too lolol They said a chin implant goes forward, not sticking out below my chin bone, so the impression of getting longer is just a feeling.... haha
They said it’s easy to think of a concave mirror and a convex mirror The actual length is the same, but visually, the face would actually look smaller.
Right after surgery, my chin did get a bit longer, like Kim Gu-ra’s Actually, I was even okay with that..? haha.. But it was swelling, and now I’m completely satisfiedㅜㅜ
For the chin becoming pointy, they said people like me with narrow, small chins can have the chin become pointedㅜㅜㅜ They told me this in advance too, but I decided I could accept that much and went ahead with it. Thankfully, it doesn’t have that pizza-slice type pointiness I was worried about lolol
<Implant size> The maximum implant size is 10 mm, and I got the maximum The size and shape were decided on the day of surgery after the director measured my chin size. They said I had a slight receding chin, and during the consultation they recommended the maximum size, so I wasn’t sure But Gore-Tex has a slight shrinkage? and the consultant also said the director had recommended 10 mm to her, but she got 7 mm and regretted so much not getting 10 mm So I decided to go with the size the director recommended!
<Order on the day of surgery> One more consultation with the consultant & signing consent forms Wash face & change clothes, then enter the operating room The anesthesiologist came, set up the IV line and prepared the medication Decided on the implant with the director, then proceeded with sedation anesthesia while the director was present
Now whether I take photos from the side or from the front, I have a chin, so I really like my facial line, and I truly feel like I’m glad I did itㅜㅜ
