An honest review of secondary re-canthoplasty revision surgery
A few days ago, I had my third revision surgery for the outer and lower canthoplasty. The previous procedure looked too natural, and just a few days after the stitches were removed it had already closed up again, so no one could tell I had even had canthoplasty. But the scar remained ㅜ My eyes are short horizontally and large vertically, so the outer corners always looked cramped. People said I had a fish-clam eye shape. But after failing canthoplasty several times, I kept wondering whether it was really right for me to have surgery again, and this clinic’s canthoplasty prices were much higher than other places, so I kept hesitating. After all that worrying, I finally made a consultation appointment at the clinic two years later, met the manager and the director, and set a surgery date. At other clinics, they kept saying there wasn’t room to widen it, that outer canthoplasty was difficult and only lower canthoplasty was possible. But Director Song said they could widen it sufficiently both outward and downward here, that their technique was different from other places, and that it would not reattach. That made me trust them even more, and I really wanted to have surgery here. But they said the surgery would be done under local anesthesia after sedation. I had local anesthesia before a long time ago, and I felt absolutely unable to do it. Other people also said it was painful and uncomfortable. I wanted to avoid pain but still get the surgery, so I wondered what to do. Then they said it would be deep sleep sedation, and that way I wouldn’t have to wake up in the middle, so I decided to go with that. But for that, I had to come in beforehand for pre-op tests. And the test fee was 30... The surgery itself was already expensive, and now I had to pay for tests too. If I hadn’t tried local anesthesia before, I might have gone with the standard surgery, but honestly, maybe because it’s a famous clinic, I didn’t really feel that the staff on the 8th floor were especially kind. The manager who consulted with me two years ago was truly kind and nice, but this time’s manager was a bit disappointing. Still, the surgery area is on the 7th floor, and the staff there were kind. On surgery day, after finishing the prep and going into the operating room, I was very nervous and scared, and the operating room was so cold for some reason. No matter how many times you do surgery, it still feels scary ㅜㅜ I had the operation under deep-sleep sedation, so it ended with no pain at all. After staying in the recovery room, I came out to go home and stopped by the bathroom, and wow, my eyes were extremely widened. Since it was right after surgery and not swollen yet, I could check clearly, and both the horizontal length and the lower part were opened up sharply!! I’ve had experiences where things closed back up before, so I told the director to make it as wide as possible, even if it was a bit much. Right after surgery, it didn’t hurt that much. It just felt like my eyeballs were fixed in place, and I couldn’t roll my eyes side to side. If you roll them the wrong way, it really hurts, so if anyone seeing this is in that situation, absolutely don’t do it. From the day after surgery, my eyes and face were hugely swollen. I also had bloody tears, and when I looked in the mirror I wondered if this was even a human face. My appearance was really severe. Other people weren’t like this, so why am I? I started regretting whether I had widened them too much. My eyes looked so droopy and sad that I wondered what would happen if they stayed like this. Does anyone else look this extremely sad too?? The conjunctival swelling is so severe that it doesn’t seem to be improving easily. I can barely see clearly in front of me, and because it keeps going like this, I’m starting to get anxious ㅜㅜ Still, it hasn’t been long since the surgery, and they said the swelling and shape only settle after all the stitches are removed, so I guess I should wait, right? One thing is certain: my eyes really did get bigger. I want my eyes to settle quickly too, so I can put on makeup and go outside. On Monday I’m having the second stitch removal, and after that I’ll post another photo review. The first stitches removed were the lower ones, and they didn’t hurt much for me. Just a little sting? But I heard removing the side stitches hurts... I’m so scared. Let’s keep fighting together, friends who are worried because it’s been so soon after surgery like me!! I hope time passes quickly and we all change beautifully!!
