I’m in my mid-to-late 30s. About 13 years ago, when square jaw surgery was all the rage, I had square jaw surgery at what was then the most popular plastic surgery clinic in Apgujeong. Back then, the internet and access to information weren’t as developed as they are now, and I was so young that I didn’t know much, so I only had a consultation at one place and just went ahead with it. It was so busy that it was almost like a factory-style clinic.
My face had a combination of issues: a long chin + protruding jaw + a square jaw only when viewed from the side. But I didn’t have the money for double-jaw surgery, and I was scared of it, too. Since I went in only to ask about square jaw surgery, they just told me, “If we do it like this and this, that should work,” only about the square jaw, so I had the surgery. At the time, I stayed at the clinic’s lodging for about 3 days. Later, people at the lodging saw me and said it wasn’t the square jaw, but the chin length that should have been reducedㅠㅠㅋㅋ While I was at the lodging with bandages wrapped tightly around my face, the surgical area hurt and felt suffocating, and I regretted it every day, wondering why I had done it. Still, I’ve been living thinking maybe it was good that I at least did that when I was young.
But a few years ago, that clinic was all over the media on a large scale for ghost surgery, was found guilty, and it was a huge mess. (When I looked it up, the articles stopped around 2020, so I don’t know whether they served their sentence or whether the lawsuits are still ongoing.) Haㅋㅋㅋ I feel like there’s a 99% chance I also had proxy surgery. Recently, when I went for consultations about my protruding jaw + long chin, they told me it was a typical slapdash surgery from that time. Looking at the CT, only that square jaw area had been cut off like a dog jaw, so when I touch it, the sides next to the front chin protrude outward, but only the lower square jaw area is chopped off, making a secondary angle(?) shape.. Still, now there’s no nerve damage, and because of facial fat, it doesn’t show outwardly, so considering how reckless I was, I’m living with gratitude that it turned out this much okay.
What I do regret, though, is that when I consult about chin tip reduction, they say the insufficiently cut areas on the sides from back then also need to be cut, and since it would count as revision surgery, the cost is higher; and because I didn’t reduce the length of the front chin back then, the desire for surgery and the complex have continued unchanged even as time passed. I sometimes think maybe I should have worked up the courage and had double-jaw surgery insteadㅠㅠ Now I’m heading toward my late 30s, so I can’t even bring myself to consider double-jaw surgery, but the fundamental solution is double-jaw surgery. Anyway, I came in after a long time and was browsing, so I ended up rambling.
